Intervals

Alberto Betancourt (albetan) An Interval is the distance between two notes. The study of intervals is the first step for an ear training. 1) Play in piano the minor second interval C -Db; and the major second interval C - D. 2) Play and sing those intervals: La...la...la...la...la.

3) Sing those intervalos without playing piano Do same process in 3 steps with third intervals: Minor third: C - Eb Major third: C - E.

Do same process in 3 steps with fourth intervals: Perfect fourth: C - F Augmented fourth: C - F# ( This is a tritone interval, 3 tones of distance)

Augmented fourth interval or tritone interval

Tritone interval is difficult to intone.

Do same process in 3 steps with fifth intervals: C-G Once you have come to this point, you have progressed a lot in your ear training. Now you may explore same exercises in other keys.

Once you have mastered fifth intervals, go ahead with 6th and 7th intervals. Minor sixth intervals: 1) Play, 2) play and sing, 3) sing alone: C - G - Ab; Then: C- Ab
