THE SIMPLE PAST

Its very simple

Use the simple past to talk about events that occurred in the past Use it with words like: yesterday, last night, last week, last weekend, two days ago, a couple of days ago, etc. there are three forms: affirmative, negative, and questions

The affirmative form:

ALWAYS CHANGE the verb form to its past form: Regular verbs: Add ED or D to the verb Walk-walkED , start-startED, rain-rainED, Examples I called a friend last night and she visited me. We talked for hours

Irregular verbs: they change in a different way Tell-told, come-came, drink-drank

Examples: I told my friend I was alone and she came to my house. Then we drank some tea.

The Negative form:

NEVER CHANGE the verb form to its past form: This is VERY easy, just use DID NOT (didnt) and the verb in its base form (with no change) Examples I DIDNT call a friend last night and she DIDNT visit me. We DIDNT talk at all. I DIDNT tell my friend I was alone so she DIDNT come to my house and we DIDNT drink anything. Compare: I called my mother and I told her to wait for me I DIDNT CALL my mother and I DIDNT TELL her anything

The Question form:

NEVER CHANGE the verb form to its past form: This is VERY easy, just use DID and the verb in its base form (with no change)

YES/NO questions: DID+Subject+Verb+Complement DID you GO out last night? DID she CALL you this morning? DID your sister TAKE a shower before she went to work? INFORMATION questions: WH+DID+Subject+Complement WHat DID you DO last night? WHere DID my boyfriend GO? HoW DID you GET my phone number?
