Projectile Motion

Abstract: In this lab, we applied what we have learned about projectile motion into experiment. First we roll a marble from a ramp sitting on the edge of the table. The ramp has two positions: A and B. We, then, rolled the marble ten times each experiment to find out the average horizontal distance of each marble. The next experiment, we raised the height of the ramp. Based on what we have known from the data, we had to calculate the dx.

dx avg (m) Time (s) Velocity (m/s)

dy1Aglass 0.3309 0.434 0.762

dy1Asteel 0.3562 0.434 0.821

dy1Bsteel 0.4585 0.434 1.06

dy2Asteel ========= 0.455 1.50

dy2Bsteel ========= 0.455 1.50

dy1 = 92.4 cm = 0.924 m

dy2 = 101.3 cm = 1.013 m

y = 1/2gt2 0.924 = 1/2 (9.8) t2 0.924 = 4.9 t2 0.189 = t2 0.434 s = t

y = 1/2gt2 1.013 = 1/2 (9.8) t2 1.013 = 4.9 t2 0.207 = t2 0.455 s = t

V = dx / t V = .3309 / .434 V = 0.762 m/s

Dx = Vxt Dx = 0.821 (0.455) Dx = .373 m = 37.3 cm
