Combinations of nouns to make new nouns are called COMPOUND NOUNS.

They can be written in three ways:

1. as one word: chairperson, headway, snowdrop, backstroke, bookshop, backache, ........


2. as two words: credit card, cookery book, , post office, spending spree,.....
3. with a hyphen: dining-room, air-conditioning, paper-clip, traffic-lights, ......
There are NO RULES how to write them. If you are in doubt, put a hyphen in between!
