Ancient China:

Introduction

Ancient China was one of the earliest centres of human civilization. Archaeological evidence suggests that the earliest humans in China date to 2.24 million to 250,000 years ago. Chinese civilization is one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations. It has the world's longest continuously used written language system, and the source of such major inventions. British scholar and biochemist Joseph Needham called them the Four Great Inventions of Ancient China: They are paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing. Chinese civilization was also one of only a few to independently invent writing.

Modern China:
After its victory in the Chinese Civil War, the Communist Party of China, led by Mao Zedong, gained control of most of the Mainland China. On October 1, 1949, they established the People's Republic of China.
