Title of Unit: Regions Title of Lesson: One place, many regions

Lesson Plan #4 out of 5

1. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson is designed to help the students understand that one place can have more than one region. 2. Target Population: grade level: 2nd grade skill level: students at all grade levels grouping: whole group discussion, small group discussion, independent notes and region writing.

3. Objectives: G6.2.1 Define region and provide examples of regions. 4. Procedure: 1. Review with the students everything they have learned so far in the lesson and answer and questions that students have. 10 min 2. Go over that places like Elizabeth, New Jersey can belong to other regions based on location. Go over different places that also share different regions and why they are shared. 10 min 3. Have students work independently to write and describe an imaginary place that has one or more features that regions have. Essentially they will create their own region from what they have learned so far. 20 4. Students will then compare their regions with their group. 5 min 5. Any student who wants to share their region with the class can do so. 5 min 6. Assessment: An informal assessment is to collect their journal to make sure that they created their own region. 7. Reflection:

What skills do students need in order to be successful with this lesson? - Students will need to be able to remember what they have learned in the previous lessons to be able to create their own region. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? - To follow up this lesson I will give the students a formal assessment to see if I need to reteach anything. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? - While students are working on their regions I will work with students to go over regions and everything we have learned so far.

Where do you anticipate having problems with this lesson? I can anticipate students getting stuck on how to create their own region even though I reviewed the characteristics.
