PLACE-NAME PALE
Summary
In the paper, on the basis of analysed ethno-historical facts and conducted historical and onomastic analysis, we gave several hypotheses, which so far
existed in linguistics as possible etymological solutions for the origin of the place-name Pale. We clearly indicated that this place-name (the name of the inhabited place) was developed by the substantiveness of the adjective derived from
the personal name Pavle by the possessive suffix , as a part of the syntagm
* (*Pavlji do). So, in the mentioned syntagm the adjective
means 'which belong to Pavle', and the whole syntagm, from the contemporary
language perspective means Pavles valley, area, esate.
