    This document provides a method to identify whether a 6-bolt Mercedes valve body will start in first or second gear.     Research by Bill Kleckner, International Technical Consultant Here is an easy way to tell if a 6-bolt Mercedes y:lve b?dy will start in 1st or -. Znd gear. Check the overnor pressure boost valve (#44). If %ere is no sprin , or the sprin is between the valve and tf e valve bo % it is a 1st gear start valve y body.

    If the spring is between the valve and the bore..plug (see photo), it is a 2nd gear start valve body.

    If you have a 2nd gear start valve body, leaving the spring out WIII make it start in 1st gear.
