A 9.00m length, 4.00m width and 3.00m height room , Luminary has 3 florescent lamps each 2300 lumen, Assume
utilization factor is 0.4, illumination level is 500 lux, and and maintenance factor is 0.8. Find the number of
luminaries.

2.1 - Calculation of Luminaries
1 - determining the level of illuminance by using table number (4)
2 - Light uniformity along the roadway is the second element of
illuminance design. It is measured in terms of ratio of the average to
minimum illuminance along the roadway Uniformity .
3 - Determining the lamp type sodium, mercury, halogen,

8 - A luminaire is composed of alight source, a reflector, and usually a glass or

plastic lens or refractor.
9 -In designing alighting system, maximizing spacing of luminaries consistent
with good illumination design.
10-We determine the lumen of lamp according to the lamp catalogue
11- Use the next Formula for calculation of the spacing between two poles
)( . S = xUxM
WxE
S = Luminaire Spacing
W = Road width
E = Nominal illuminance level.
M = maintenance factor.
U = Utilization factor

2.2 Case Study

A road with the following data
1- Roadway Width (w) = 10m
2 Total length of Roadway (L) = 480m
3 Average illuminance level obtained
(E) = 20 lux from the table no. (4)
4 High pressure sodium lamp 250w
with luminous flux 27000 lumen
5 Assume that maintenance factor = 0.7
6 Assume that utilization factor = 0.35
Solutions:
To find the luminaries spacing we use the following formula
:
