The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is a monument in Paris and it is the worldwide symbol for Paris. It is also one of the most visited tourist attraction of France. It is located next to the river the Seine, in the seventh district of France, where more official buildings are located and relatively a low number of houses and shops. Since 2007, the Eiffel Tower is visited by more than 236 million visitors. The Eiffel Tower was built between 1887 and 1889. It was built for the Exposition Universelle of 1889, it would be monumental entrance for the Exhibition. The year 1889 was not chosen at random, as it was the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the French Revolution. The Eiffel Tower was inaugurated on 31 March 1889 en on 6 May officially opened. In total, 250 steelworkers helped with the construction. It was remarkable for that time that no worker died while working on this monument. The total costs of the build were almost eight million French franc. It was originally the idea to break down the Eiffel Tower after twenty years, but it was not broken down due to communication purposes. On the first platform there is an exposition about the Eiffel Tower with pictures, paintings and other information. The second platform has the best view, from here the buildings are best visible. On this platform is also a restaurant located, which is awarded a Michelin star. With the elevator it is possible to go to the third platform. Here is a unique view of Paris. Informational panels, spread over the Eiffel Tower, state which buildings can be seen from that point. The Eiffel Tower is 317 meters high, from the bottom to the top of the flagpole. On the top are television antennas placed, by which the tower is actually another 7 meters higher. The temperature can also cause the tower to change another 15 meters in height, by the shrinking and expending of the metal. After the build it was the highest tower of the world and the Eiffel Tower is still the highest tower of Europe.
