The Masai-Mara-Migration
It is the largest mass migration of mammals in the world and a unique spectacle of nature. Huge herds of wildebeest, Thomson gazelles, zebras and antelopes cross the Sand River in the period July to September. The Sand River is a mostly dry tributary of the Mara which roughly follows the boundary line between Kenya and Tanzania. In October, the gradual withdrawal begins to the south, when the grasses in the Mara have been grazed.
