Renewable Energy

Briana Brown October 27, 2011

Californians= ~2,900 pounds of household garbage and industrial waste each and every second Total of 85.2 million tons of waste (2005) 1 Biomass power plants produced about 5 of all the renewable energy.

A renewable energy source from living/unliving organisms

Benefits
Eliminates the need to place ALL waste in landfills. Using methane gases helps produce electricity which eliminates odor and reduces air pollution in surrounding areas. Renewable

Disadvantages

Biomass produces greenhouse emissions Land used for energy crops maybe in demand for other purposes, such as faming, conservation, housing, resort or agricultural use.

"Landfilling" = the disposal of municipal and household solid wastes United States. Landfill waste produces significant amounts of landfill gas (mostly methane). Because the gases are highly combustible, a good solution was to collect it and produce ENERGY
