A chemist is a scientist trained in the study of chemistry.

Chemists study the composition of matter and its properties such as density and acidity. Chemists carefully describe the properties they study in terms of quantities, with detail on the level of molecules and their component atoms. Chemists carefully measure substance proportions, reaction rates, and other chemical properties. Chemists use this knowledge to learn the composition, and properties of unfamiliar substances, as well as to reproduce and synthesize large quantities of useful naturally occurring substances and create new artificial substances and useful processes. Chemists may specialize in any number of subdisciplines of chemistry. Materials scientists and metallurgists share much of the same education and skills with chemists. The work of chemists is often related to the work of chemical engineers, which are primarily concerned with the proper design, construction and evaluation of the most cost-effective large-scale chemical plants and work closely with industrial chemists on the development of new processes and methods for the commercial-scale manufacture of chemicals and related products. Best Answer - Chosen by Voters There are so many different avenues for a Chemist. I work in Quality Control for a chemical production plant, so I check all of the raw materials coming in to make sure they are what they are supposed to be and I check all our products before they ship to make sure they are within the specs that our customer sets. I make up solutions that we use on a daily basis and standardize them and as well as doing some machine maintance and repair on our analytical instruments. I also work to develop new methods to help our lab run more efficiently. And in our lab you have to clean your own glassware at the end of the day although some labs hire people to just clean all of their used glassware!!! Chemists are well versed with the legal classification of medicines. Chemists also have a lot of information on controlled drugs, adverse drug reactions and yellow card reporting, drug alerts and recalls due to report of adverse reactions and counterfeit medicines and medical devices.
