1. What is does this focus on?

Analytical- Analytical chemistry is the science of obtaining, processing, and communicating information about the composition
and structure of matter.
Biochemistry- Biochemistry explores chemical processes related to living organisms. It is a laboratory-based science combining
biology and chemistry.
Chemical- Chemical engineering involves the production and manufacturing of products through chemical processes. This
includes designing equipment, systems, and processes for refining raw materials and for mixing, compounding, and processing
chemicals.
Physical- Physical chemists are focused on understanding the physical properties of atoms and molecules, the way chemical
reactions work, and what these properties reveal.
Inorganic- Inorganic chemistry is concerned with the properties and behavior of inorganic compounds, which include metals,
minerals, and organometallic compounds.
Organic- Organic chemistry is the study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-containing
compounds.

2. What do people do on the job?

Analytical- An analytical chemist may conduct basic laboratory research, perform process and product development, design
instruments used in analytical analysis, teach, or work in marketing and law.
Biochemistry- Biochemists interact with scientists from a wide variety of other disciplines, usually on problems that are a very
small piece of a very large and complex system.
Chemical- The main role of chemical engineers is to design and troubleshoot processes for the production of chemicals, fuels,
foods, pharmaceuticals, and biologicals
Physical- Physical chemists discover, test, and strive to understand the physical characteristics of a material (i.e., solid, liquid, or
gas).
Inorganic- Inorganic chemists are employed in fields ranging from mining to microchips
Organic- Organic chemists spend much of their time developing new compounds and finding better ways of synthesizing existing
ones.

3. Where is it used in general?

Analytical- Analytical chemists often work in service-related jobs and are employed in industry, academia, and government.
Biochemistry- Biochemistry has obvious applications in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine.
Chemical- Chemical engineering is most often found in large-scale manufacturing plants, where the goal is to maximize
productivity and product quality while minimizing costs.
Physical- The research performed by physical chemists is an increasingly small part of industrial research. Accordingly, fewer
physical chemists are being hired by industry and government labs.
Inorganic- Inorganic compounds are used as catalysts, pigments, coatings, surfactants, medicines, fuels, and more. They often
have high melting points and specific high or low electrical conductivity properties, which make them useful for specific
purposes.
Organic- Organic compounds are all around us. Many modern materials are at least partially composed of organic compounds.
They’re central to economic growth, and are foundational to the fields of biochemistry, biotechnology, and medicine.

4. What are some companies that employ people with these backgrounds...locally or nationally? What does the pay look like?
