Design of Gravel trap

Design discharge=7.092 cumecs (20% increased) Size of particle to be settled =3mm or greater Velocity(V)=0.6m/s Area(A)=7.092/0.6 =11.82m2

Flow depth =3m (assuming) Width of flow(B)=11.82/3 =3.94m say 4m.

Length of gravel trap(L)=3*approach canal width(B) =3*3 (Width of approach canal=3m) =9m

Length of inlet zone (Linlet) Linlet=(B-B)/(2*tan)

=(4-3)/(2*tan100) =2.836m Length of outlet zone (Loutlet) Loutlet=(B-B)/(2*tan) =(4-3)/(2*tan250) =1.07m

Assume Bed slope 1:35

Therefore gravel trap have the following dimensions:

Length of gravel trap(L)=9m

Width of gravel trap (B)= 4m

Depth =3m

Depth of inlet gravel (D1)= Depth of deposition (D2)=
