Chemistry 212 QU Identication of hydrocarbons Natalie Martinez 6/14/2012 6/21/2012

We tested the reaction amongst two solutions; one solution in the test tube as another was dropped in the tube. There were three unknown concentrates in which we were to identify each unknown. Our three unknowns were alkane, alkene, and aromatic. We started with six test tubes and a different concentrate in each (5 drops). We added five drops of a different concentrate in order to view the reaction. This step was repeated for three times for bromine, potassium permanganate, and sulfuric acid. After viewing the characteristics of the reactions of the unknown concentrates we concluded, (1) alkane, (2) alkene, (3) aromatic.
