TEAM ACTIVITY: CONTINUOUS DRYING

PROBLEM A Rotary Drum drier with a length that is 2.5 times its diameter is used to dry 8016 kg/h of granular polymer with particle diameter of 100m and dry velocity of 0.85 kg/m2s from 11% to 0.1% moisture and 30C. Flue gas at 88C (H=0.15) enters countercurrent to the solids and leaves at 25C. The ratio of the dry gas velocity to the dry solid velocity is 0.8. It has a slope of 0.025 ft/ft and peripheral speed of 0.2 m/s. Assume all percentages given are on dry basis. Find the: a) drier diameter b) humidity of the flue gas leaving c) drier length d) temperature of the solid entering e) residence time SOLUTION
