FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EASTER STORY DEATH SENTENCE: WHO DARES RESURRECT OUR CONDEMNED CULTURAL STORIES? 40 local and nationally acclaimed artists breathe new life into the Imperial Hotel, Colwyn Bay - whilst taking on the challenge of unpacking the true meaning of Easter A communitys anger overflows into action as yet another boarded up and historically significant building lies dormant and lifeless on Colwyn Bays High Street. Driven by Engediarts.com the Imperial Hotel in Colwyn Bay is being given a community makeover by hundreds of willing volunteers in preparation for a celebratory Easter Story Arts exhibition at the beginning of April. According to the project manager Gavin Mart, our cultural festivals are in danger of suffering the same plight as many of our communitys most treasured buildings; they are being overshadowed by corporate takeovers which do little by way of investing in community engagement, social cohesion and preserving the stories of our past. Engediarts.com has been overwhelmed by the level of support shown from the community as Sonja BenskinMesher (Royal Cambrian Academy member) explains; This amenity will prove invaluable for those of us in the Arts, a place to meet and network, to show and explain the work we are doing in the North. Simon Holland Roberts of Pigtown Theatre Company continues I would like to show my full support to Gavin and his endeavours, our work is driven by the wealth of talent found in our community and I feel that any outlet for artistic venture of any kind must be nurtured and applauded. The exhibition intends to daringly unpack 40 stark biblical texts journeying through the Easter Story including: the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead, the capital punishment of Jesus Christ, and the involvement of women in the gospels. Gavin Mart explains We are not trying to proselytise or push a particular theory or ideology here, and have invited artistic submissions from community sectors inclusive of all faiths and none. What seems to be generating so much interest is the development of a collection of diverse and mixed media and how the artists exposition demonstrates our contemporary understanding of the Easter Story. Engedi Easter Story exhibition opens Sat 31st March 2012, please see website for event listings www.engediarts.com ### If youd like more information about this topic or to schedule an interview with Gavin Mart, please call: 01492 864001, or 07818 028084.
