Rapid advancements in technology, dynamic markets, and the changing global business environment have created increased demand for professionals who can lead, manage, deliver, and support information systems. This demand has been accelerated by new competition, shorter product life cycles, outsourcing, and more complex and specialized international markets. Information systems professionals are required to lead and evolve information resources while partnering with corporate management. Organizations need IT professionals that are effective at working closely with their business partners to identify innovative opportunities to leverage IT for competitive advantage. Likewise, business people need to be more effective as they work closely with their IT partners. This requires an appropriate balance of technical, business/management, industry, and interpersonal (e.g. writing, presenting, working in teams) skills. With about 1,000 students (one of the largest IS graduate programs in the world) this balanced program is designed for information systems professionals seeking to advance their careers in IT, for business professionals looking for ways to leverage their IT resources, and for academics that are preparing students for the challenges that await them. To meet the increasing need for professionals with the experience necessary to enable these important functions, Stevens offers a multi-track Master of Science program to help achieve your Information Technology career objectives. This program prepares students for careers such as: IT Management IT Liaison Systems Analyst Entrepreneur Management Consultant Outsourcing Manager Project Management Systems Integrator Business Analyst Internal Consultant Technical Specialist Academician

In addition to strong practical, real-world IT and management skills, graduates of the program leave with improved communication, interpersonal, team, analytic, and critical thinking skills. The MSIS is a professional degree that integrates information and organizational cultures with emphasis on IT professionals that can complete a set of flexible initiatives that meet the current and emerging demands of our industry partners. 80% of our students are sponsored by their company.

P ROGRAM S TRUC TURE


Degree Requirements 12 graduate courses with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the degree of Master of Science usually completed over a 2-year period (see page 2 of this brochure). This MSIS is comprised of 3 Business core courses and 5 IS core courses described in the column on the right, in addition to 4 selected electives or concentration courses (listed on page 2 of this brochure; 12 courses in total for the MSIS). Your assigned faculty advisor is available to assist you in creating your personal study plan. With an additional 8 courses students can be awarded an MBA instead of the MSIS.With an additional 12 courses they get both. (see page 2 of this brochure).

P ROGRAM LOCATIONS & SCHEDULES


Courses are offered on the Stevens campus (across the river from Manhattan in Hoboken, NJ), on weekday evenings, and Saturday mornings. Weeknights On-campus classes are held Monday-Thursday 6:15pm - 8:45pm. Saturday On-campus classes are held 8:30am - 1:30pm. Off-campus classes at company sites are typically held on weekday evenings on a trimester schedule. Stevens also offers the program throughout the world. RE QUIRED BUSINE SS CORE (3 COURSE S)


Introduction to Project Management This course examines IT projects within an organizational context, including the processes related to initiating, planning, executing, controlling, reporting, and closing an IT initiative. Students develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets; they also experience estimating project resources, allocating/coordinating resources, and interfacing with management. MIS 623 Financial Management of IT The collection, processing, and reporting of financial information for IT organizations. Topics: applying managerial and cost accounting to information and IT organizations, and how IT accounting relates to strategic business and process innovations. The impact of cost, revenues, risk and uncertainty on financial decisions will be illustrated via case examples. MIS 689 Organizational Behavior & Design This course exposes students to the macro and mirco aspects of organizational behavior and theory that are essential to technology management.The macro aspect will focus on the structural contingency theory as an approach to effective organizational design.The micro aspect will focus on leadership, teams, and individual behavior.Current topics that are key to technology management,will be stressed.

P ROGRAM TRACK S
Many concentration areas are available to students, including Management, Industry, Process & Services, and Technical tracks. See page 2 for the listing of tracks and their courses.Also available as a Certificate, students will be awarded both the MSIS degree and Certificate for their chosen concentration. MBA, Executive MBA, and P.h.D. degrees with IS majors are also available. The eight Information Systems core courses on the right are available on Saturday mornings as a lock-step program to company sponsored students. The non-core Saturday courses are avaliable as electives to all IS students. All tracks and courses can be made available to build flexible seminars for our corporate collaborators.

RE QUIRED INF ORMAT ION SYS TEMS CORE (5 COURSE S)


MIS 700
Managing Emerging Information Technology A fundamental part of IT organizations is their ability to leverage new technologies. This course focuses on how organizations can effectively and efficiently assess trends and emerging technologies in the data and knowledge management, information networks, and analyzing and developing application systems. Students will learn how to help their organization define, select, and adopt new technologies.

MIS 710 Process Innovation & Mgt. How strategy, organization structure and processes can be integrated to execute corporate strategy and provide competitive advantage. Students learn how to analyze, design and manage processes using reengineering best practices and how to integrate processes into a business intelligence architecture for the firm. MIS 730 Integrating IT Architecture
This course focuses on ways of designing and integrating an enterprise architecture across current and emerging technologies, and explains the different forms of large-scale information systems and their interaction.Students will learn about the building blocks of current enterprise architecture including clusters and mainframes, and how to connect them to solve the problems of larger institutions.In this way students will be prepared to design systems in an age characterized by a rapid expansion in data and application demands the invention of new storage technologies, evloving networks, and the increasing the ubiquity of large scale parallel processing infrastructure.

MIS 750 Managing the IT Resource Improves the competency in managing the tactical and operational responsibilities of the IT organization of a company. Topics include: key IT processes, IT governance, IT organizational design, managing emerging technologies, role of the CIO, value of IT, IT HR considerations, IT outsourcing, and Strategic Alignment Maturity. MIS 760 IT Strategy The objective of this course is to provide the student with a strategic analysis process that incorporates the necessary tools and skill sets to create business strategy that is aligned with information technology (IT) strategy.This includes the formulation of strategic business initiatives that are aligned with and empowered by IT using methods to identify opportunities for leveraging IT capabilities for competitive advantage and building a harmonious integrated strategy.
