Business intelligence and Data Analytics have changed key processes of all organisations,
offering more effective solutions to make informed business decision and design successfull
strategies. Across industries and sectors, BI is become the driver of competitive advantage,
supporting companies to improve their daily operations and assess future plan based on
reliable information and quantitative methods.
The Master in Business Intelligence and Analytics combines broad business skills with a solid
knowledge of analytics, data science and digital transformation, to prepare students to to
improve decision-making and drive organizational performance through data. The master’s
program covers the engineering methods, tools, and techniques, including data analytics,
data mining and big data, business intelligence and business transformation and provides the
interdisciplinary knwoledge to conceive and implement strategic and operative measures.
Throughout the master, students will develop a strategic vision of technology and business
and the skills to analyze and interpret data in order to optimize resource usage, measure
financial risk, lead innovation and create sustainable strategies.

5 PROGRAM
The master is structured around 8 modules which address the fundamental aspects of business
intelligence, data management, processing and analysis and project management and
innovation. The program culminates in a project work to be developed using real data, under the
guidance of an University mentor.
DATA MANAGEMENT
This course provides students the fundamental theory and the practical knowledge to use Database
Management Systems to support MIS. It introduces the main concepts of designing a relational database
as well as map out the business requirements to the logical and physical design of Database Management
Systems. In addition, OLAP tools to extract critical information to make business decisions will be analysed.
The course prepares students to deal with the concept of privacy issues and data breaches. Proper data
management are presented as essential for all organizations that handle sensitive information and large
volumes of data.

BUSINESS ANALYTICS AND QUANTITATIVE BUSINESS METHODS


This course will focus on the emerging paradigm of business analytics, which plays a crucial role for the
fourth industrial revolution and drives the digital economy. Through the course, students learn, apply and
experience a core set of skills and expertise in the fields of big data, modelling standards, analytics, business
intelligence systems and problem-solving in order to address real industrial and business challenges. The
course aims to provide students with frameworks to understand Information Systems in organizations and
with practical skills in using tools like spreadsheets for reporting, analysing and drawing important
information and business data. Students approach the matter in a practical way, by creating on Excel a
lightweight software structure for business management and data analysis; as well as experiencing the
advanced tools by accessing an ERP and a Business Intelligence application.
BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
This course provides an introduction to business intelligence concepts and a comprehenisve undertsanding
of data warehousing and data mining along with associated techniques and their benefits to organizations
of all sizes. It explores how business problems can be solved effectively by using operational data and data
mining and analytics in order to improve organizational operations. The course prepares students to use the
technologies and tools that make up BI such as Data warehousing and Data reporting. It also provide the
knowledge and skills to understand Online analytical processing (OLAP), the technological architecture that
underpins BI systems. Case studies are used to explore how BI can be used in every stage of the
decision-making lifecycle and the limitations of BI as well as the technical and social issues.

BIG DATA ARCHITECTURE


In this course, students are introduced to data analysis to improve skills and understanding of how big data
creates value in the business and public sector. The course also introduces data analysis lifecycle and the
three types of data analytics: descriptive, predictive and prescriptive. Students will use Anaconda
(Python with its libraries) extensively to create a data pipeline to acquire, analyse and visualise data.
Throughout the course they will identify the likelihood of future outcomes through the use of data, statistical
algorithms and machine learning techniques based on historical data. The course provides the knowledge
and skills to work effectively with heterogeneous real-world data and to become experts in extracting
useful insights for business. It provides a unique blend of information technology, mathematical, analytical,
and managerial skill. Moreover, the course covers the concept of Big data privacy, the management of big
data and the system and processes used to minimize risk and protect sensitive data.
INNOVATION MANAGEMENT
Innovation is the lifeblood of successful organizations in today's rapidly evolving business landscape. This
comprehensive Innovation Management course equips students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies
needed to drive innovation within their organizations. Whether the student is a business leader,
entrepreneur, or aspiring innovator, this course will empower her/him to harness the power of innovation to
stay competitive and foster growth. Upon completion of the course students will be able to understand the
fundamentals of Innovation, develop innovation strategy and manage the innovation process, implement
innovation metrics and performance measurement.

ONLINE BUSINESS AND INNOVATION


The technology advances are changing the way business is conducted and business leaders need to
develop analytical and innovative skills to succeed in the digital age. This course provides students with a
comprehensive understanding of the impact of entrepreneurship and digital business. Through the course
students analyse the digital transformation and digital disruption for companies and organisations and
develop specialised competencies and experience in business innovation, online business, start-up
creation, online management strategies and leadership. The course makes extensive use of current case
studies and gives students the opportunity to design new e-business models and applications.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLICATIONS
The course provides a complete understanding of Artificial Intelligence and its application and focuses on
opportunities, limitations, and challenges related to the use of AI for value creation. Different theories
related to the relationship and dynamics between organisations and technology will be presented to
understand how AI triggers new organisational and societal challenges. Through the course students
understand and practice real world problems by applying different Artificial Intelligence frameworks such
as Tensorflow, Keras and Pytorch. A set of case studies analysing different well known techniques such as
Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN), Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing(NLP), will be
also presented.
PROJECT WORK 6
As part of the curriculum during the last Semester, students are required to develop a project
work in a chosen area of specialization for the successful completion of the Master Program.

Students can choose a topic and explore the subject in detail, putting the theory taught during
the program into practice.

The project must be based on a critical, and analytical approach and create something new in
terms of method, application, ideas and knowledge.

Once completed and submitted by the student, the project work will be evaluated and
approved by the academic committee of the Master.

Students will be then required to present the project work during the final Master ceremony by
videoconference.
