Hazardous Area Classification

This document outlines classification zones and categories for hazardous locations based on the presence of flammable materials. Zone 0 refers to areas where flammable materials are present continuously or for long periods. Category 1 equipment is used in these areas. Zone 1 and Zone 2 refer to areas where flammable materials are present intermittently or for short periods, requiring Category 2 and Category 3 equipment respectively. North America and CENELEC/IEC standards provide different area classifications and temperature codes for equipment used in hazardous locations with gas hazards.
