TODAY Welcome to Cedar Church! This morning, Pastor Steve continues his sermon series called Judges - Gods Rescue through Unlikely Heroes. In the evening service, Pastor Steve preaches a sermon series called Living Out the Gospel in the Letter to the Galatians. 11:00 AM Catechism Club & Sunday Small Groups 5:30 PM Evening Service ANNOUNCEMENTS Pastor Steve Away Next Sunday Pastor Steve & his family will be in WV next weekend for an Igo family reunion. Pastor Chris Post will fill the Cedar pulpit that day. If you need pastoral assistance, please see one of our elders. Sunday School Reminder There will be no classes during the month of August. Autumn quarter will begin Sunday, September 16th. August Fellowship Month Since we have no Sunday School in August, Cedar Session would like to encourage the entire congregation to participate in various fellowship activities throughout the month: a. Take advantage of the extra mixer time to socialize during our Sunday morning coffee and refreshments. b. Invite a few people to join you for Sunday lunch for extended fellowship and relationship building time together. c. Not just Sundays! Take an opportunity to eat or recreate with some church friends during the week at this beautiful time of the year. New Regional Home Missionary to Visit Cedar Our new RHM Glenn Jerrell will visit Cedar Church on Sunday morning, August 19th. Glenn served many years as pastor of Grace Reformed OPC in Walkerton, IN, and will now serve our presbytery by coordinating our church planting ministries. Glenn will give a brief missions moment before our morning worship service, and then a thorough presentation at the 11 AM hour. Please plan to meet and greet our brother, Glenn!

ANNOUNCEMENTS Kent County Jail Ministry Today, Cedar Church will host our 5th Sunday chapel service at the Kent County Jail from 12:45 PM 2:15 PM. Please keep this ministry in your prayers. If you are interested in participating in the future, please see Pastor Steve. Sunday School Teaching Opportunity Please contact Dave Broene if you would like to teach a Sunday School class beginning this fall quarter. We have a couple of openings for teacher and assistant positions for the following ages 1st & 2nd grade teacher & assistant, preschool teacher & assistant, toddler assistant. Hurry! These opportunities wont last for long. 20122013 Cedar Womens Ministry This September, we are excited that our Cedar Womens Ministry will relaunch for the new year. Are you interested in using your gifts, skills and passions to serve our church family here at Cedar? If so, please speak with coordinator Carla Baker, as we make plans for our annual September planning meeting. Youth Group @ Grandma Kramers Farm On Sunday evening, August 19th at 7 PM, Cedar Youth Group will hold a time of food, fun and planning for next year at the farm of Grandma Carol Kramer (Deb Grysens mom) at 8024 36th Avenue (across from the Hudsonville Football Stadium). All Cedar Church 7th 12th graders should plan to attend! For more info, see Deb Grysen. Request from Cedar Deacons - If you can assist with ushering at the beginning of services, or if you have some talents (remodeling, car repair, budget counseling) you would be willing to offer to members of our congregation, please let any of the Deacons know, so that we can call on you in the future in the Lord's service. OPC Family Camp - Today is the final day to register for family camp at Camp Concordia on August 6-10 at www.harvestopc.org. Please pray that God will bless our time together with good weather, spiritual refreshment, and a deepening love for Him and for one another.

There is a pressing need for families who are willing to host refugee teens from Africa and Central America, who, because of violence and persecution have been separated from their families and forced to flee their homes. You can make a difference! At least 30 volunteers are needed to mentor and guide individuals who are learning how to budget. With just a once a week commitment, you could help make a great difference in a familys financial life. If you are someone who enjoys working with numbers and people this is a fulfilling and enjoyable opportunity. Training and support always provided. Zion Christian Golf Outing - Mark your calendar and plan to join us this fall for our golf outing at Diamond Springs Golf Course on Saturday, September 22. Registration is at 7:30am, with play beginning at 8:00am. Cost is $100 for adults and $75 for students. OPC REGIONAL HOME MISSIONARY REV. GLENN JERRELL


The Regional Home Missionary shall be a missionary called by the Presbytery to labor on behalf of the Presbytery in church planting, and be devoted to the formation and development of core groups in preparation for the work of an organizing pastor. Normally he shall not serve as an organizing pastor of the groups, and he may be working with several groups at any one time which may be in various stages of development. The RHM shall be an ordained elder who has the particular gifts and calling to fulfill the Biblical office of evangelist; be able to communicate his zeal to gather in Christs lost sheep and effectively disciple younger men in his ministry; must relate well to people in the area to which he is called to labor; must be able to organize his time and perform his duties independent of daily supervision; must have and maintain a working knowledge of literature and other data relative to church planting. The primary duty of the RHM is to devote his time and energies to the formation and development of a nucleus for a church plant in each of the groups with which he is working. This ministry shall include: Personal evangelism and follow-up discipleship; Organizing and leading Bible studies; Teaching about the doctrine, history and distinctives of the OPC Seeking to become known by some of the leaders (religious and civil) of that area to inform them of his overall plans & gain insight. Regular duties of the RHM shall include: Visit the churches of Presbytery to inform them of the work of CHEX and encourage them to be planting new churches. Prepare recommendations for advertising the work in the community Send prayer items to the churches of Presbytery & prayer partners Enlist seminary interns to work with him with a view to developing and attaining competent organizing pastors. Study potential areas within Presbytery for future outreach; Perform demographic and community studies of selected potential areas for future work; Attend missionary training seminars, Assist pastors and congregations of other affiliations who make requests to unite with the OPC. As time and schedule permits, the RHM is encouraged to spend extended portions of time supporting established mission works.

A NURSERY is available near the entrance of the gymnasium, but children are always welcome in the worship service. COFFEE BREAK After the morning worship, please join us in the foyer for coffee and refreshments. KIDS BREAK After morning worship, all kids (pre-school thru 6th grade) are invited to remain in the gymnasium for snacks and fun songs with Mr. & Mrs. Himebook.
