STATEMENT BY JACK AMES, FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR OF DEFEND LIFE APRIL 16, 2012

This settlement may well become a landmark decision In the history of the PROLIFE movement because it clears the way for other PRO-LIFE groups across America to conduct Face the Truth Tours and other graphic displays similar to ours along public rights of way in all 50 states without fear of police harassment or arrest. In Maryland, if we are ever again harassed, intimidated, or arrested by any police authority while acting in a similar manner, we can go immediately back to Federal Court and sue the Maryland State Police (MSP) or other authority. For example if we are once again harassed by the MSP as we were in July 2010 in Bel Air, Maryland, two years after our illegal arrests, we can sue the MSP once again by going directly to U.S. Federal Court.

Under the $385,000 settlement agreement, plaintiffs received approximately $90,000 of the $385.000 settlement. Two public interest law firms who represented us received the remainder. A third public interest law firm who represented us received nothing.

A most important part of the settlement is that all MSP Troopers must undergo training in the First and Fourth Amendments to prevent a travesty such as the one that occurred on August 1, 2008 from ever happening again!

DEFEND LIFE has the right to review this training program before it is implemented. DEFEND LIFE will also be monitoring this training to ensure that it actually occurs in an adequate manner. If it does not, DEFEND LIFE will once again go to Federal Court to sue the MSP for breech of this settlement agreement.

DEFEND LIFE condemns the SEXIST language used by now retired Trooper Dona Bohlen who gave the order to arrest all 18 of us. Much of this foul language which was used in telephone and radio communications at the time of our arrests and during a subsequent deposition should not be repeated in public because it so despicable. Yet, for the benefit of the record, it is posted at www.Defendlife.org/pressroom. This language apparently goes back to the days when Trooper Bohlen was a cadet at the MSP Training Academy. DEFEND LIFE is initiating a complaint against the use of this foul language this very day. We plan to hand deliver this complaint to the nearby MSP Headquarters Building at the

completion of this News Conference and we invite you to accompany us with your cameras and microphones as we do so.

The good news is that the FIRST and FOURTH AMENDMEMTS still live on Maryland for which we are extremely grateful. Our Founding Fathers such as Washington, Jefferson. Madison Monroe, Patrick Henry, and Charles Carroll, one of the four signers of the Declaration, from Maryland had it right. They understood how fundamental these precious God-given rights were to this American Republic if it were to flourish. Without, their courage and wisdom, we would not be standing here today proclaiming VICTORY! In closing, please be aware that our 12th annual Maryland Face the Truth Tour will be held July 23 -27.
