This is an interesting letter regarding the finances of the parish and how we might make things better by just making a slight adjustment to our giving on Sunday.

Mystagogy Discerning the Mystery of Our Faith Part 2
Several of comments I received in response to the last article (part 1), were that it took some work to read it and learning about our faith isnt supposed to be hard. The intent of the language and thought of the last article was not to be hard but it was to inform the community we are all involved in this celebration called liturgy. The council calls us to the full and active (conscious) participation by all the people. We need to be able to actively reflect on the actions and language of the Mass. One of the key roles of Mystagogy is that it allows us to reflect and mark in our mind essential elements of our doctrinal faith The Mystery of Faith as proclaimed by the celebrant immediately after the consecration and the expression of that Mystery in liturgy and life in our response, We proclaim your Death, O Lord and profess your Resurrection, until you come again The hard work is that it is a response in faith, not a lifeless automatic response. The hard work of Mystagogy is that we are called to listen and internalize what we hear. From the instruction of the RCIA we in the company of the newly baptized are to: have the experience of the sacraments and recognize how this experienceincreases as it is lived at the same time the language of the liturgy is to lead to the deepening of their grasp of the paschal mystery a fuller more effective understanding of the mysteries and giving the first place to being Truly..renewed in mind The challenge for all of us is to take the time to be open to doing the hard work of Mystagogy. Father Adrian, I wanted to give my two cents worth regarding what I see in the weekly bulletin related to collections. San Luis Rey parish has 5000 families registered (from SLR website). If we use the 5,000 number and divide it into the $16,373 collected last week we come up with $3.28 donated per family (I know not everyone donates but sometimes numbers are fun to work with). The church needs $24,400 per week to meet its obligations or $4.88 per family, an extra $1.60 per family per week. Wow, what a sacrifice we need to make each week!!! Lets see: one half of a bean and cheese burrito, cut back driving 10 miles, one less DVD rental, no dessert for one dinner, one less ITunes song. The beauty of this sacrifice is that it is for a cause we love. I believe as a parish we do not realize how easy it would be to fix this problem. Now, if we really decided to do something about the financial unbalance we could triple this gift from $1.60 to $5.00 each family and bring in another $884,000 ($3.40 X 5000 X 52 weeks = $884,00) as a parish to support the needs of the Mission earth quake retrofit initiative. Just my two cents worth. Even though I am out of work, I know I can come up with $5.00 to help this cause! ~~Peace

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN UNTIL AUGUST 31ST.

Pre-School thru 6th grade (English/Spanish) is on Sunday mornings 6th- 8th grade is on Tuesday evenings (6:30 8:00 p.m.) First Communion preparation may begin in the second grade; the preparation for the Sacrament is a two year process. A copy of the childs Baptism Certificate is required. You may register your child the following ways: Fill out forms located in the Parish Office. Print out forms from our website, and then mail them to the Parish Office with your payment. Paperless On Line Registration with Q-Pay at sanluisreyparish.org Completed registration payments are required by February 28th. Registration closes on August 31, 2012 and any registrations after this date will be accepted based on classroom space availability.

ASSIST WITH A BIBLE: At the Easter Vigil our parish community witnessed forty five people receiving the sacraments necessary to complete their full entrance into the Church. One of the key elements of their catechesis is the coming to know the Scriptures, the Word of God, on a weekly basis. During class during the week and again when they gather on Sunday they come to build a relationship with Jesus Christ that they will carry with them for all their lives. For this to take place the RCIA catechumens & candidates are given a Bible at the ceremony marking the beginning of their journey of faith. Our parish faith formation budget is stretched this year trying to cover many, many, needs. Your help will be greatly appreciated if you could help us with providing Bibles to our RICA groups (both English & Spanish). A donation of $20.00, or any amount, would help us in purchasing a Bible for each RCIA catechumen or candidate entering the Church next Easter. If you wish to give, you may make a donation at the Parish Office, in Bill Bischoffs office, or drop it into the collection in an envelope marked BIBLES. Many of the people coming into the Church have many questions about the place of the Blessed Mother in the life of the Church. In their time spent in RCIA many times a strong devotion to Mary comes about for the new Catholic. Therefore a need for an adult rosary to be given to them is also a need in the RCIA process. To be eligible for the Confirmation Program students: Must have been attending a Catholic Formation program or Catholic High School within the last two years Be at least 15 years of age by June 30, 2013 Students who do not meet the requirements may enroll in Pre-Confirmation. The Registration fee for Confirmation is $150.00 which includes expenses for workshops and retreats for the entire year. The Pre-Confirmation program rate is $70.00. Esta es una carta interesante sobre las finanzas de la parroquia y cmo nosotros podramos hacer que las cosas estuvieran mejor con hacer solo un pequeo ajuste en nuestra ofrenda dominical. Padre Adrian, Yo deseo dar mi granito de arena tocante con lo que yo observo en el boletn semanal relacionado con las colectas. La Parroquia de San Luis Rey tiene 5,000 familias inscritas (por lo mencionado en nuestra pgina del internet). Si utilizamos el nmero de 5,000 y lo dividimos entre los $16,373 colectados la semana pasada obtenemos $3.28 donado por familia (yo se que no todo el mundo hace donaciones pero a veces es divertido trabajar con los nmeros). La Iglesia necesita $24,400 semanalmente para cubrir las obligaciones o $4.88 por familia, $1.60 adicional por familia por semana. Oh, qu gran sacrificio tenemos que hacer cada semana!!! Vamos a ver: la mitad de un burrito de frijoles y queso, eliminar 10 millas de manejo, rentar una pelcula menos, no pedir postre en una comida, bajar una cancin menos en ITunes. La belleza de este sacrificio es que es para una causa que amamos. Yo creo que como parroquia no reconocemos qu fcil debera ser resolver este problema. Ahora bien, si nosotros deseamos realmente hacer algo sobre este desbalance financiero, nosotros podramos triplicar este regalo de $1.60 a $5.00 por familia y traer otros $884,000 ($3.40 X 5,000 X 52 semanas = $884,000) como parroquia para sostener las necesidades de nuestra Misin en la restauracin ssmica. Solo mi granito de arena! An cuando estoy sin trabajo, yo se que puedo dar mis $5.00 para ayudar esta causa! ~~Paz

RICA PARA JVENES ADOLESCENTES

Una parte muy importante de nuestra Formacin de Fe para Jvenes es el Programa de RICA adaptado para gente joven. RICA es para aquellos jvenes que no han sido bautizados o que desean entrar a la Iglesia, provenientes de otra comunidad de fe Cristiana (ej. Bautista). En el mundo nuestro de hoy en da muchos hombres y mujeres jvenes no tienen la oportunidad de mantenerse en un lugar el tiempo suficiente para pertenecer a una parroquia Catlica. Otros encuentran en la Iglesia Catlica algo ms satisfactorio que en la comunidad Cristiana dentro de la que ellos nacieron. Aquellas personas que deseen inscribirse en el proceso de RICA, necesitarn inscribirse en el Programa de Formacin de Fe de Preparatoria, la misma inscripcin como la de Confirmacin. CURSO DE EVANGELIZACIN: VIDA Y MISIN DE LA IGLESIA

Este curso se basar en un estudio general del Documento Aparecido, donde el Papa Juan Pablo II nos deca que La Evangelizacin no puede realizarse hoy sin la colaboracin de los fieles laicos y que deben ser parte activa y creadora en la elaboracin y ejecucin de proyectos pastorales a favor de la comunidad. Esto requiere una mayor apertura de mentalidad para que entiendan y acojan el ser y el hacer del laico en la Iglesia, quien por su bautismo y su confirmacin, es discpulo y misionero de Jesucristo. En otras palabras es necesario que el laico se tenga muy en cuenta con un espritu de comunin y de participacin (N. 213).
