Father Adrian, I wanted to give my two cents worth regarding what I see in the weekly bulletin related to collections. San Luis Rey parish has 5000 families registered (from SLR website). If we use the 5,000 number and divide it into the $16,373 collected last week we come up with $3.28 donated per family (I know not everyone donates but sometimes numbers are fun to work with). The church needs $24,400 per week to meet its obligations or $4.88 per family, an extra $1.60 per family per week. Wow, what a sacrifice we need to make each week!!! Lets see: one half of a bean and cheese burrito, cut back driving 10 miles, one less DVD rental, no dessert for one dinner, one less ITunes song. The beauty of this sacrifice is that it is for a cause we love. I believe as a parish we do not realize how easy it would be to fix this problem. Now, if we really decided to do something about the financial unbalance we could triple this gift from $1.60 to $5.00 each family and bring in another $884,000 ($3.40 X 5000 X 52 weeks = $884,00) as a parish to support the needs of the Mission earth quake retrofit initiative. Just my two cents worth. Even though I am out of work, I know I can come up with $5.00 to help this cause! ~~Peace

RCIAINQUIRY: Have you ever had questions about the Catholic Church? How do you become a member of the Catholic Church? For those not baptized, baptized in another Christian church, or baptized Catholic but inactive in the church, please call 760-547-0702. RCIA FOR YOUTH: A very important part of our Youth
Faith Formation is the RCIA adapted for young people. The RCIA is for those young people who have not been baptized or wish to enter the Church from another Christian faith community (i.e. Baptist). In our world today many young men and women do not have the opportunity to stay in one place long enough to belong to a Catholic parish. Others find in the Catholic Church something more fulfilling than the Christian community into which they were born. Those wishing to enroll in the RCIA process please sign up for our High School Faith Formation Program, the same registration as our Youth Confirmation. For information please call Bill Bischoff at 760-547-0702 or write: religioused@sanluisreyparish.org.
CATHOLICISMSUNDAYS THRU SEPT. 29TH AFTER THE 5:00 P.M. MASS The SCC ministry will be presenting the acclaimed and dynamic series CATHOLICISM. Catholicism is a DVD series that goes to the heart of what Catholics believe and why they believe. The material is based on Scripture, the Catechism, and the spiritual intellects of the Catholic Church both past and present. The Churchs global culture, the beauty of its art and architecture and the goodness of its people are highlighted. Fr. Robert Barron makes the teachings of the Church quite understandable. The presentation will be on Sunday in the Serra Ctr., after the 5pm Mass. Each session is just one hour. Please add this to your summer plans! For information call Bill 760-547-0702. (Pizza and drinks will be sold before/after the presentation by the World Youth Day Group)
ASSIST WITH A BIBLE: At the Easter Vigil our parish community witnessed forty five people receiving the sacraments necessary to complete their full entrance into the Church. One of the key elements of their catechesis is the coming to know the Scriptures, the Word of God, on a weekly basis. During class during the week and again when they gather on Sunday they come to build a relationship with Jesus Christ that they will carry with them for all their lives. For this to take place the RCIA catechumens & candidates are given a Bible at the ceremony marking the beginning of their journey of faith. Our parish faith formation budget is stretched this year trying to cover many, many, needs. Your help will be greatly appreciated if you could help us with providing Bibles to our RICA groups (both English & Spanish). A donation of $20.00, or any amount, would help us in purchasing a Bible for each RCIA catechumen or candidate entering the Church next Easter. If you wish to give, you may make a donation at the Parish Office, in Bill Bischoffs office, or drop it into the collection in an envelope marked BIBLES. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions call Bill Bischoff at 760-547-0702. Many of the people coming into the Church have many questions about the place of the Blessed Mother in the life of the Church. In their time spent in RCIA many times a strong devotion to Mary comes about for the new Catholic. Therefore a need for an adult rosary to be given to them is also a need in the RCIA process. A donation of $10.00 will help in acquiring rosaries for these individuals. The same manner for giving is as written above. Any questions please call Bill Bischoff at 760-547-0702.

~~Paz
