Visiting Priests Corner

Pope Benedict, in his annual message on the Lourdes feast day for this year said, The Church, in continuing to proclaim Jesus message of forgiveness and reconciliation, never ceases to invite the whole community to convert and believe in the Gospel. Jesus, during his life, proclaimed and made present the mercy of God. He came not to condemn but to forgive and to save, to give hope in the deepest of suffering and sin and give eternal life. Eternal life in Heaven is a reality for us. Let the light of Christ dwell in us so that we boldly proclaim Jesus as our Savior to the people around us. Let us joyfully witness Christ, especially: 1. Together as a parish; 2. In St. Columba School; 3. In places of work and families May our Heavenly Mother sustain us in this pilgrimage of Faith. Our Lady of Lourdespray for us.
RECYCLING: We now have a green bin and a yellow bin located near the recycling center for easy drop-off any time. This program has earned over $300 for our school. Keep up the good work! SMOKE DETECTORS AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS: Free to people over 62. Nominal fee of $20 for others. To request an installation, please call 619-933-3377.

DIOCESE OF SAN DIEGO

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: I write to you concerning a serious matter that negatively impacts the Church in the United States and strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for citizens of any faith. The federal government has just dealt a heavy blow not only to Catholics but to millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to provide employees' health coverage that will include contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs. Nearly all health insurers will be forced to include these "services," and nearly everyone will be forced to buy that coverage. As a result, in the Diocese of San Diego, this will impact institutions such as Catholic Charities, Father Joes Villages, and our diocesan Catholic Schools. In so ruling, the Obama Administration is denying to Catholics the fundamental freedom of religious liberty guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Unless the rule is overturned, we will be compelled either to violate our consciences or to drop health coverage for our employees and thus suffer severe penalties. We cannot comply with this unjust law. I would ask of you two things. First, as a community of faith we must commit ourselves to prayer and fasting, so that wisdom may prevail and religious liberty be restored. Second, please visit the USCCB web site, www.usccb.org/conscience, to learn more about this assault on religious liberty and to join others in contacting Congress in support of legislation that would reverse the Obama Administration's decision. I thank you for your prayers, sacrifice, and advocacy on behalf of protecting religious liberties. Sincerely in our Lord, Robert H. Brom Bishop of San Diego
