Garden City, NY, Financial Advisor Kive I. Strickoff meets with Congressman Peter T. King
Massapequa Park, New York, August 21, 2012 - Kive I. Strickoff, CPA, and several of his colleagues affiliated with Financial Services Institute, met with Congressman Peter King this past Tuesday morning to discuss important issues affecting the financial services industry. Financial Services Institute is an organization which advocates on behalf of independent financial advisors and broker dealers on matters affecting their industry, as well as for the benefit of all investors from main street middle class Americans to business employers. During their meeting, Mr. Strickoff and his colleagues conveyed their concern to Congressman King about the overwhelming volume of new regulations affecting the industry, which are starting to stifle their ability to come to the assistance of their clientele. Both with reference to the results of the Dodd-Frank bill, as well as recent attempts by the Department of Labor (DOL) to impose inappropriate fiduciary designations upon financial advisors in some situations, the meeting was focused on the need for relief from the adverse unintended consequences of these new regulations, which hurt both the financial advisor industry as well as their clients. Issues touched upon also included recent withdrawal of the DOL proposed regulations and the contemplated reissuance of those regulations, contemplated selection by congress of a Self Regulatory Agency to perform inspections of Registered Investment Advisors, as well as the threat of rescission of the exemption by which independent financial advisors are presently considered to be outside contractors, as opposed to employees of their broker dealers. Throughout the meeting, Congressman King was very receptive to the concerns presented by Mr. Strickoff and his colleagues, and the meeting was considered to have been a very productive exchange of ideas, which were welcomed by Congressman King. As background, Congressman King is Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, and serves as a member of the Financial Services Committee, and on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Kive I. Strickoff, CPA, is the President and CEO of Strickoff Financial Services, LLC, a Registered Investor Advisor firm located in Garden City, New York. He can be contacted at kive@strickoff.com.
