Heres a short note on how to help your child at home: Read the title to your child Open the book and look at the first picture. Let your child tell you what he sees. 3. Hold your childs pointer finger and point to each word as you read the sentence. Read it again to your child the same way. 4. Then have your child read the sentence to you as he points to the words. 5. Then only with a little help, he should be able to read the rest of the book alone. 6. Sit beside your child and let him read the book to you several times alone. Then help your child in the same way with the 2nd book. It is very important that you sit beside your child as he reads so that you can reinforce the skills mentioned above. While we know that your child is not actually reading all the words, the skills he is practicing build a good reader. Writing on the Reading Log Sheets: 1. Child copies title from book. Then writes the level (yellow 100 book challenge sticker around spine of book means level y, yellow sticker with black stripe around spine of book is YY, green sticker around spine of book is level g, green sticker with black stripe around spine of book is level gg.) Help your child with the date. 2. Then the parent (or other listener) signs the Reading Log. 1. 2.
