Any activity related to corporate citizenship is an experience that is humbling and leaves one with a feeling of fulfillment. Accenture in India is doing a wonderful job of working with marginalized communities. I was privileged to volunteer my time on a Skills to Succeed initiative, with women slum dwellers, as part of Accentures engagement with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). I would love to be part of such projects in future and provide as much support as possible to make such programs a success.

We created our Code of business Ethics based on these values. The Code synthesizes the conduct we expect of our employees and leadership and is backed up by more than 50 specific policies.

Accentures citizenship and environmental strategy is governed by a dedicated subcommittee of our global Global Management Committee, which is our most senior management group. This subcommittee meets quarterly to consider the policy and guide the work of the Corporate Citizenship Council, a group of senior executives from multiple disciplines and geographies who are tasked with implementing those policies and supporting programs. The Council, which assesses the strategy, guides our overall program and approves major initiatives, is supported by a number of specialist teams. Each of our 15 geographic units has a council member who is responsible for implementing Accentures corporate citizenship priorities within that geography.

Driving Change at Scale
In the Indian context, a focus area of national priority is skill development. There is a critical need for skill development in India to capitalize on the demographic dividend and the Union Government has proposed spending US$5 billion on skills development over the next few years as part of the National Skills Development Mission. Accentures corporate citizenship focus, Skills to Succeed, resonates with the national agenda to bridge the skill divide. Our long-term relationships with leading nonprofit organizations have enabled us to deliver long-lasting change for people and communities. We work with a number of strategic partners that share our skillsbuilding goals, including organizations such as Dr. Reddys Foundation, Don bosco Tech, Quest Alliance, LaborNet, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India and Hope Foundation as well as the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, for a mass vocational skilling program in the affected state of Jammu & Kashmir. Having identified industry verticals that have the maximum potential for employment in India, our approach has pivoted around providing skills to thousands of young men and women from low-income backgrounds in high employment sectors such as business Process Outsourcing, Hospitality & Facilities Management, Retail, Construction and Micro-Enterprise. Our people have been instrumental in shaping the careers of these youth who previously had no opportunities for training and personal development, by engaging with them on a sustained basis through guest lectures and mentoring. A majority of the trained youth are now employed within and outside Accenture.

QUEST ALLIANCEHelping develop a competent retail workforce We are supporting QUEST ALLIANCE adopt a blended learning approach to teaching and learning using various e-learning and information and communications technology (ICT) tools. The program aims to offer holistic ICT solutions, providing market-driven retail training skills for twenty-first century jobs.

3. Dr. Reddys FoundationPreparing a workforce for the IT and BPO services sector We are supporting Dr. Reddys Foundation in expanding its operations across India in a sustainable manner, thereby enabling them to equip and support more students to enhance their skills. Our extensive involvement in redesigning the curriculum, training the faculty through frequent Training of Trainer (TOT) programs and sustained mentoring efforts has helped students obtain bPO entrylevel jobs across India.

Don Bosco TechTraining youth for Indias booming hospitality industry With Don bosco Tech, large numbers of young people are being trained through state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and infrastructure in hospitality and facilities management. Through our partnership with a leading chain of hotels, ITC Welcom Group, students have access to technical expertise, high-

4. LaborNetEnabling construction workers achieve better livelihoods Through LaborNet, we are helping informal sector workers gain access to meaningful employment in the construction industry. Our support has led to the development of 10 multilingual training videos in tile laying, fabrication, fancy stone laying, electrical, waste segregation, carpentry, water proofing, plaster of paris application, painting and

housekeeping. This will help increase the quality of work and the ability of the workers to charge a higher wage on account of the training.

Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI)Helping unleash the entrepreneurial spirit We are working with EDI to train youth from rural towns and districts in entrepreneurship. by providing leadership training, business plan development and strengthening competencies in areas such as financial management, individuals are able to create employment and wealth for both themselves and others.

Hope Foundation, Nasscom Foundation, Aide-et-Action Collaborating to intensify S2S outcomes We are supporting Hope Foundation, Nasscom Foundation and Aide-et-Action by providing them quality training curricula and training of trainers free of cost. This helps build capacity and enables cross collaboration among our partners.

7. Enable India, Dr. Reddys FoundationMainstreaming people with disabilities We are working with Enable India and Dr. Reddys Foundation to lessen the gap between employment rates for disabled people and the general population through bPO skills training aimed at improving their job prospects.

We are supporting Leonard Cheshire Disability in expanding its Access to Livelihoods program into South and East Asian locations. This program helps disabled people gain access to meaningful employment through training, life skills and placement services.

Volunteering: Contributing personal time and skills for our partners

Pro Bono: Offering high-quality consulting and business services at zero cost
Kapil bansal and Yogesh Dhond from the Consulting workforce helped build the supply chain for a network of 45,000 women rural entrepreneurs through the Self Employed Womens Association (SEWA). The company, which produces recycled paper-based stationery products, witnessed a 700 percent increase in productivity and a 500 percent increase in workers earnings. Accenture provides pro bono or nofee consulting services for nonprofit organizations. In fiscal 2011, more than 60 people provided their business, technology and consulting skills to our partners across India free of cost. These projects worth US$200,000 ranged from developing an application software for student database management to creating a business plan and scalability strategy for our Skills to Succeed partner.

Employee Giving Program: A small sum goes a long way

Mohit Agrawal from the Solutions workforce volunteered with Dr Reddys Foundation and Hope Foundation to mentor students in life skills. His sustained interventions have helped the students secure meaningful placements. Mohit has been involved in streamlining processes for these nonprofits, providing them with a steady stream of Accenture volunteers and adding value to the course curriculum. Through the volunteering program, our people have spent more than 25,000 hours of their personal time and skills volunteering with a range of nonprofits to build their capacity and in some cases, have adopted the nonprofit to help them in their journey as change makers.

Shiva Mukunda from the Services workforce supports Enable India, a charity partner in the Employee Giving Program that provides training and helps people with disabilities to participate equally in mainstream society. In addition to being a part of this program, where he has been making a financial contribution every month, over several years, he also volunteers his time with the nonprofit. The Employee Giving Program allows our people to support a charity of their choice from the 22 partners on the program. These monthly monetary contributions from our peoples salaries go a long way towards changing the lives of unemployed young people across the country. More than 12,000 of our people have made this financial commitment in fiscal 2011 impacting thousands of youth, women and children across the country.

Fundraising Events: Trekking to raise money for charity

Accenture Development Partnerships (ADP): Channeling Accentures skills and capabilities to the development sector
Pooja bhatt from the consulting workforce managed an ADP project, developing and testing inclusive business models to offer innovative technical solutions developed by an MNC that led to income-generation for rural communities. Working with NGOs, donors and government bodies, the team assisted in developing an ecosystem to enable a sustainable impact to livelihoods at the bottom of the pyramid. Accenture Development Partnerships is the not-for-profit, or more appropriately not-for-loss arm of Accenture that channels our business and IT consulting skills and capabilities to the development sector to advance sustainable solutions to global development challenges. ADP provides a leadership development opportunity to Accenture people to work on nontraditional projects and clients in locations around the world.

Manisha bhattacharya from the Solutions workforce raised more than US$3,000 for Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) by participating in the Kerala Challengea trek for charity organized by Accenture. Her funds helped create sustainable income-generating opportunities for marginalized women in Jharkhand, by training them on animal husbandry, bio farming mechanisms, leadership and marketing skills. Our employees support Skills to Succeed in their individual fund-raising endeavors through charity events such as the annual VSO India challenge event, a fundraising event to support VSOs Secure Livelihoods work and three major charity marathons (Mumbai, Delhi and bengaluru) every year. Additionally, our people are involved in mobilizing funds in times of disasters, such as the Japan earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

Environmental Stewardship

In a traditional Indian dance form, the shankh mudra depicts that sound waves created by a shell prevents calamities and helps in attaining the desired goals. 16 b

Contributing to Environmental Efficiency


Electricity
We continued to achieve annual energy savings across our locations in India through initiatives such as implementing low-energy LED lighting, energy-saver panels, building energyefficient facilities and procuring energyefficient Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Additionally, significant savings were achieved through desktop power saving, cloud computing, monitor sleep mode, data center temperature, server virtualization, Internet Protocol Telephony (IPT) and Thin Film Transistor (TFT).

Green Buildings
The first-ever green room was launched at our flagship facility in bangalore. This room is built entirely from ecofriendly materials and uses wind energy for lighting, recycled worn out rubber for floor tiles, paints made from natural ingredients and bin boxes made of 100 percent recycled paper.

Celebrating World Environment Day


We celebrated World Environment Day (June 5, 2011) across all our locations in India, over four weeks, giving our people an opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, ranging from expert speaker sessions on rainwater harvesting, participating in a tree plantation drive, shopping for eco-friendly products from the comfort of their cafeterias to being provided with free saplings on World Environment Day.

Environment Certifications

Accenture has an Environmental Management System (EMS) and holds global ISO 14001 certification. In fiscal 2011, we included new facilities under the scope of the EMS, taking the total number of EMS-certified facilities to five in India. We have achieved and continue to maintain OHSAS 1800:2007 certification, which relates to occupational health and safety, for our offices in India.

Engaging Employees

We continue to engage our employees through innovative environmental action programs.

Global Challenges
We built on the success of our fiscal 2009 Global Employee Eco Challenge and fiscal 2010 Team Eco Challenge (both were won by India) by launching the Team Eco Challenge on World Environment Day to encourage employees to take specific pledges around business travel, electricity consumption and resource conservation.

Car Pooling to Work


We launched the car pool portal, developed pro bono by a cross-section of teams from within different business functions. Close to 20,000 of our people have registered and are actively using the site, thus reducing their traffic woes and getting to know their colleagues better as they car pool their way to work.

Air Travel
To reduce emissions related to business travel, we are teaming with clients, when appropriate, to implement smart work and alternative travel arrangements so we can stay connected and deliver value, regardless of where our people are located. We increased the use of Telepresence technology, which is now implemented in 15 locations across Accenture in India.

Eco-watch Teams
We set up the eco-watch teams with volunteers from across the business with the aim of implementing ecoefficient office practices, ranging from spreading awareness on green procurement, personally switching off monitors when not in use to supporting local environment drives.

Water
We achieved annual water savings across our locations through initiatives such as implementing sensor water taps, bio tabs as substitutes for water in urinals and recycled water used from sewage treatment plants.

Supplier Diversity and Sustainability

Kathputli, native to Rajasthan, is a popular form of storytelling using puppets to create awareness of social issues and how to overcome them. 18 b

Everyone loves to read ragsto-riches story, but we were fortunate to create a ragsto respectable livelihoods story for illiterate women with the SEWA program. This project gave us an immense sense of fulfillment and an opportunity to give back to society at a social and environmental level. We feel satisfied that at Accenture, we could demonstrate how to create an environment-friendly as well as a profitable business to improve the livelihood and social status of thousands ragpickers by giving them more respectable jobs.

As we strive to improve the sustainability of our own operations, we also seek to influence our suppliers business practices. Our goal is to use our own knowledge, experience and technologies as examples for our entire supply chain and to provide guidance and encouragement for supplier sustainability efforts.

CollaborationSkills to Succeed and Procurement


Through Accentures Procurement Supplier Inclusion & Diversity and Skills to Succeed program, we are working with the Accenture cofounded organization WEConnect International and the World bank on a pilot to help SEWA up-skill and upscale its operations. The initiative aims to supply corporations with stationery items produced by SEWA members from recycled paper. Many of the women involved are former rag pickers, who are among the poorest and most vulnerable workers in the world. Now an increasing number of these women can look forward to greater self-reliance.

Leveraging Women-owned Businesses


We are actively promoting women-owned businesses and other underrepresented suppliers in our procurement process. A key example of this is our partnership with Gift Links. This local womenowned entity is the primary supplier of all merchandise and marketing and communications-related requirements at Accenture in India. Additionally, in fiscal 2011, two women-owned businesses were empanelled as vendors for IT-related items and the due-diligence process for an additional three vendors for HR-related items is underway. We have also started a concierge service at one of our locations that is owned and managed solely by women.

The responsibility for cultivating our inclusive environment begins with our most senior leaders, supported by our Inclusion & Diversity governance bodies, which keep our programs relevant and innovative. In fiscal 2011, we focused on increasing representation of women in our workforce and collaborated with our employees to create innovative programs to ensure we remain an inclusive workplace and are viewed as a thought leader in the area of Inclusion & Diversity.

Our efforts in this field span a gamut of programs including Parents at Work, a program that assists expecting women employees and new mothers help settle down at work; Employee Assistance Program, which offers the services of qualified psychologists at zero fee to consult on personal and professional matters; and being Gender Sensitive, a gender sensitization training program for our people.

At Accenture, we believe in maximizing the organizations effectiveness in managing a diverse workforce. The Leading a Diverse Workforce (LDW) program is one such step in that direction. It enables our executives to acquire a deeper understanding of the types of behaviors that result in a more inclusive environment; become familiar with the tools and techniques for managing diversity on their teams; and readily identify problem situations and how to address them.

The Inclusion & Diversity Month was celebrated to commemorate International Womens Day (March 8, 2011). This was the seventh year celebration of this event and was based on the theme Reinvent OpportunitiesLooking through a New Lens. The celebrations were a huge success, held across seven locations with thousands of participants and eminent external speakers, including author Chetan bhagat, filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar, business personality Lila Poonawala and bharata Natyam danseuse Vani Ganapathi who shared their perspectives on gender mainstreaming, Inclusion & Diversity.
