ROCK EXCAVATION EXCAVACIN EN ROCA 1. GENERAL 1.1 Summary A. Scope of Specification This specification prescribes the requirements for the excavation and removal of solid rocks using drilling and blasting techniques to achieve the site finished grades indicated on the Drawings or otherwise required by the contract documents. Also prescribed are the requirements for the removal and disposal of excavated materials to the designated areas as shown on the Drawings or as directed by the Construction Manager. B. Related Specifications The following specifications prescribe items of related work: C-CS-10-001 Earth Excavation C-CS-10-006 Trenching and Backfilling Coordinate work prescribed by this specification with work prescribed by the above listed specifications. C. Terminology Solid Rock Solid, homogenous, interlocking, crystalline material with firmly cemented, laminated, or foliated masses or conglomerate deposits, that cannot be removed without systematic drilling and blasting, drilling and the use of expansion jacks or feather wedges, or the use of backhoe-mounted pneumatic hole punchers or rock breakers; also large boulders, buried masonry, or concrete other than pavement exceeding 0.5 cubic meters in volume. 1.2 References Referenced publications within this specification shall be the latest revision, unless otherwise specified; and applicable parts of the referenced publications shall become a part of this specification as if fully included. The procedure shall include, but not be limited to, the following items: Safety precautions to be taken for protection of persons, the work, and existing structures. Time schedule for blasting so as to limit interference with normal project work.

ROCK EXCAVATION EXCAVACIN EN ROCA B. Type and usage of protective mats.

Submit to Construction Manager a detailed plan for blasting a minimum of 7 days prior to starting rock excavation. Show pertinent data for each stage of blasting. Such data shall include, but not be limited to, the location, depth, and area of blast; diameter, spacing, depth, pattern, and inclination of blast holes; the type, strength, amount, column load, and distribution of explosive to be used per hole, per delay, and per blast; the sequence and pattern of delays; and the description and purpose of special methods proposed. Construction Manager may waive this detailed requirement in areas where a general pattern has been established. Notify Construction Manager in writing 24 hours before moving explosives onto the site.

1.4

Permitting Permits required for blasting shall be obtained and paid for by the Contractor. Submit copies of such permits to Construction Manager prior to blasting.

PRODUCTS Not applicable.

3.

EXECUTION 3.1 Blasting Perform blasting only with skilled operators and under the direction of a competent foreman. Perform blasting with explosives of such power and in such quantities and position that: A. B. C. D. E. F. G. 3.2 The excavation shall not be unduly large. The rock upon or against which embankments, backfill, or structural concrete will be placed shall not be shattered. Masonry or structures already constructed shall not be damaged. Whenever further blasting may damage rock, masonry, or structures, cease blasting and excavate the remaining rock by barring and wedging or by other approved methods. No method of blasting that is dangerous to the public or destructive to property or to natural site features shall be employed. Use blasting methods such that, upon completion, excavation surfaces are sound and relatively smooth. Blasting will not be allowed within 30 m of concrete or grout that has been in place fewer than 7 days.

Blasting Record Keep and maintain a blasting record of each shot. The record shall include, but not be limited to, the following information: A. B. C. ROCK EXCAVATION EXCAVACIN EN ROCA D. 3.3 Additional data that may be required prior to each shot

Roadway Excavation Excavate rock to a depth of 75 mm below the bottom of the proposed pavement subbase or base course as shown on the plans within the limits of the roadbed. Backfill to roadway subgrade shall be with satisfactory fill material in accordance with Specification C-CS-10-001.

3.4

Structure Excavation Excavate rock to the dimensions of the footing or foundation seal. No rock shall project inside these dimensions. When concrete foundations are to rest on rock, clean the rock surfaces of loose material and cut to a firm surface (either level, stepped, or serrated). Clean out all seams and fill with concrete or grout.

3.5

Pipe Excavation Refer to Specification C-CS-10-006, when pipe excavation is required in rock.

3.6

Dental Excavation Dental excavation, consisting of the removal of unsuitable materials outside the minimum line of excavation and encountered in confined areas such as seams or solution cavities, shall be performed when required.

3.7

Measurement A. Rock to be removed shall be measured in the presence of a representative of Construction Manager. Rock removed before such inspection shall be construed as general excavation and no additional compensation shall be allowed for its removal. Except for boulders, rock excavation shall be measured in its original position and the volume in cubic meters computed by the method of average end area. Overbreakage exceeding 150 mm beyond the indicated grades and excavation lines will not be paid for. During excavation, excessive overbreakage to the foundation grade that Construction Manager determines to be the fault of Contractor shall be replaced with 14 MPa concrete. Such replacement shall be by and at the expense of Contractor. An amount per cubic meter as indicated in the Schedule of Quantities and Prices shall be backcharged for overbreak in excess of 150 mm beyond the excavation lines shown in areas where structural concrete is to be poured directly against rock surfaces.

3.8

Disposal Excavated rock that conforms to the requirements of Specification C-CS-10-001 may be used in embankments as therein specified. Remove and properly dispose of boulders and other unsuitable materials from the site as specified by the Construction Manager.

Alcance de la Especificacin Esta especificacin prescribe los requisitos para la excavacin y retiro de rocas slidas usando tcnicas de perforacin y voladura para lograr las plataformas terminadas en el lugar indicadas en los Planos o lo requerido de otra manera por los documentos del contrato. Tambin se prescriben los requisitos para el retiro y desecho de materiales excavados a las reas sealadas segn lo mostrado en los Planos o segn lo ordenado por el Gerente de Construccin. B. Especificaciones Relacionadas Las siguientes especificaciones norman los siguientes puntos de trabajo relacionado: C-CS-10-001 Excavacin de Tierras C-CS-10-006 Zanjado y Relleno Coordine el trabajo indicado por esta especificacin con el trabajo prescrito por las especificaciones arriba enumeradas. C. ROCK EXCAVATION EXCAVACIN EN ROCA A. Someta un procedimiento para voladura al Gerente de Construccin para su revisin y aprobacin 14 das antes del comienzo de la voladura. El procedimiento deber incluir, pero no estar limitado a los puntos siguientes: B. Se tomarn medidas de seguridad para la proteccin de personas, del trabajo, y de las estructuras existentes. Cronograma (horario) para voladura de tal manera que se limite la interferencia con el trabajo normal del proyecto. Tipo y uso de mantas protectoras.

Someter al Gerente de Construccin un plan detallado para voladura con un mnimo de 7 das antes de comenzar la excavacin de roca. Muestre los datos pertinentes para cada etapa de voladura. Tales datos debern incluir, pero no estar limitados a, localizacin, profundidad, y rea de voladura; dimetro, espaciamiento, profundidad, patrn, e inclinacin de los agujeros de la voladura; el tipo, resistencia, cantidad, carga de la columna, y distribucin del explosivo que se utilizar por agujero, por accin retardada, y por voladura; la secuencia y el patrn de retardos; y la descripcin y propsito de los mtodos especiales propuestos. El gerente de construccin puede renunciar a este requisito detallado en reas donde se haya establecido un patrn general. Notifique al Gerente de Construccin por escrito 24 horas antes de transportar explosivos al lugar.

Permisos Los permisos requeridos para voladura sern obtenidos y pagados por el Contratista. Remita las copias de tales permisos al Gerente de Construccin antes de la voladura.

EJECUCIN 3.1 Voladura Realice la voladura solamente con operadores expertos y bajo direccin de un capataz competente. Realice la voladura con explosivos de tal poder, en tales cantidades y tal posicin que: A. B. C. D. La excavacin no deber ser indebidamente larga. La roca que deber ser colocada sobre o contra embancamientos, relleno, o concreto estructural, no deber desintegrarse. La mampostera o estructuras ya construidas no debern ser daadas. Siempre que una voladura adicional pueda daar roca, mampostera, o estructuras, detenga la voladura y excave la roca restante por medio de barreno y acuamiento o por otros mtodos aprobados. No deber ser empleado ningun mtodo de voladura que sea peligroso al pblico o destructivo a la propiedad o a las caractersticas naturales del lugar. Utilice mtodos de voladura tales que, al finalizar, las superficies de excavacin estn slidas y relativamente parejas.

Registro de Voladura Guarde y mantenga un registro de voladura de cada tiro. El registro deber incluir, pero no ser limitado a la siguiente informacin: A. B. C. D. Tamao, profundidad, y espaciamiento de los agujeros de barrenado. Distancia aproximada de los agujeros de barrenado a cara abierta, si es que hubiera. Peso y tipo de explosivo por agujero, y perodo de retardo utilizado. Se pueden requerir datos adicionales antes antes de cada tiro.

3.3

Excavacin de Carreteras A. Excavar la roca a una profundidad de 75 milmetros debajo del fondo de la subbase de pavimento propuesto o curso base segn lo mostrado en los planes dentro de los lmites de la base del camino. El relleno a la rasante de la calzada deber ser con material de relleno satisfactorio de acuerdo con la Especificacin C-CS-10-001.

3.4

Excavacin de Estructura Excavar la roca a las dimensiones del cimiento o del sello de cimiento. Ninguna roca se proyectar dentro de estas dimensiones. Cuando los cimientos de concreto tengan que descansar sobre roca, limpiar las superficies de la roca del material suelto y corte una superficie firme (ya sea: nivelar, escalonar, o dentar). Limpiar todas las costuras y rellenarlas con concreto o mortero (grout).

3.5

Excavacin de Tubera Referirse a la especificacin C-CS-10-006, cuando la excavacin de tubera sea requerida en roca.

3.6

Excavacin Dental La excavacin dental, consiste en el retiro de materiales inadecuados fuera de la lnea mnima de excavacin y encontrados en reas confinadas tales como costuras o cavernas, esta ser realizada cuando se requiera.

3.7

Mediciones A. La roca a ser retirada deber ser medida en la presencia de un representante del Gerente de Construccin. La roca retirada antes de tal inspeccin deber ser interpretada como excavacin general y ninguna compensacin adicional deber ser permitida para su retiro. A excepcin de rocas grandes, la excavacin de la roca deber ser medida en su posicin original y el volumen en metros cbicos computado, por el mtodo de rea final promedio. La excavacin en exceso que exceda 150 milmetros ms all de los grados y lneas indicadas de la excavacin no ser pagada. Durante la excavacin, la sobre-excavacin en exceso al nivel de cimiento que el Gerente de Construccin determine que es falla del contratista deber ser reemplazada con concreto de 14 MPa. Tal reemplazo deber ser por y a expensas del contratista. Una cantidad por metro cbico segn lo indicado en el Programa de Cantidades y Precios ser recargado por la sobre-excavacin en exceso de 150 milmetros ms all de las
