Minutes from the General Membership PTSA Meeting at Floyd Middle Magnet, Thursday, May 24, 2012.

The FMMS Band, directed by Mr. Woodson played as a prelude to our meeting. The meeting was called to order by President of PTSA, Deena Weston, at 6:05pm. After a moment of Silence, Mrs. Perry and the FMMS Chess Club led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes from the March 2012 meeting were provided and membership approved by a show of hands. The Treasurers Report was also provided, reviewed, and approved by Membership. As a report of activity, PTSA members were asked to stand if they had volunteered in some way during the 2011-2012 school year. At Open House in August 2011, parents were asked to volunteer at least 3 hours to FMMS. By a show of those standing, this goal was achieved. Movie Night, was held Friday, April 20, 2012. Estimated attendance was 50 students and 12 parents. Food was provided for sale and the movie Cool Runnings was played on a big screen. Profit from this event = $40. Spring Field Day, was held Friday, May 18, 2012. More than 20 parents volunteered to help. 435 out of 497 students participated. There were competitive events, inflatable events, and concessions. The 8th graders won the competitive events and there is a signed photo in the lobby for all to see. Profit from this event = $3400. FREEmoney, is back. Susan Yost has organized flyers and programs. Thank you for participating. Please keep sending items. There will be a report of money earned given at the Fall Meeting. Teacher Appreciation Week, was May 7th 11th. Thank you for going on the blog and choosing items off the teacher wish list to gift teachers with during this event. This is also a great resource for those wanting to give end of the year gifts to the

school/staff. Many of you brought breakfast and lunch items during Appreciation Week. Thanks to you, our staff enjoyed food all week! Plans for Summer. Please contact your Board of Education Representative, County Commissioner, City Councilmen, or any other public official to request help with paving our parking lots over the summer. PTSA will partner with Job Corp over the summer to paint as much of the building as Job Corp Students can manage during their On Site Training. Please let Deena know if you would be interested in building/ground improvement projects over the summer. Teachers will be asked to provide a work list for us to focus efforts. Officer Elections were conducted by Committee Chair, Eva Luckie, and her Committee, Amie Helms and Jackie Lewis. The Committee conducted interviews of those interested and then nominated the following: Deena Weston, President, Kathy Shirley, Vice President of Membership, LaShenna Clayton, Vice President of Fundraising, Ashley Parker, Treasurer, and Erin Stewart, Secretary. There were no additional nominations from the floor and no objections to the Committee Report. Members approved the Committee Nominations by a show of hands, and officers for 2012-2013 were then installed. Principals Address. Mr. Johnson announced that MCBOE has given approval for sports at FMMS. Applications are being accepted for Athletic Director and our program will be organized over the summer for the 2012 -2013 school year. Volleyball will be the first sport in the fall, but FMMS will provide all sports available through MPS Middle Schools. The only exception will be football. Mr. Johnson explained grade requirements to remain at FMMS, and to enter magnet high schools. He explained that he and the guidance office were available to meet with concerned families/students. He also invited parents to attend the Egg Drop event June 1st being conducted by Computer Tech classes. Meeting was adjourned at 7:10pm to music provided by the FMMS Band.
