We would like to welcome everyone to the sixth edition of Kimberley Chronicle! We hope enjoyed Victoria Day this year and avoided any mudslides. In this issue we look into Queen Victorias Great Grandsons visit to Kimberley in 1927. Edward the Prince of Wales made sure to visit Kimberley on his cross-country trip before becoming King in 1936. Seems like Royals back then knew where to go. Also on a less Royal note Page 2 has a riveting story from Kimberleys recent past about a birth on the side of the road in Marysville that is close to our hearts. We hope you enjoy reading all about it!

No matter what your views on the monarchy are; all would have to agree that they are good for a Long Weekend and the odd parade at least. In 1927 two future kings were guests of The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada and toured both the Sullivan Mine as well as the concentrator. Edward and George; whose great grandmothers birthday we celebrate each year by camping and drinking, would both end up having a go at being King after visiting Kimberley. Edward decided hed rather marry a divorced American woman than be King for longer than a year, but George reigned for over 15 years starting in 1936. George passed away 60 years ago, and his daughter Elizabeth has been doing a fine job of holding down the fort since then, despite having never visited Kimberley.

Four years ago last week Cliff Aquila Jarvis was born in the front seat of a 1981 AMC Eagle on the side of the road by the RV Car Wash in Marysville. Cliff s parents Erryn and Wade were on their way to the hospital in Cranbrook when Cliff s head crowned while they were crossing the Mark Creek Bridge entering Marysville. After a few seconds of quick decision making and poor driving they pulled over and Cliff was born about a minute later. Thankfully a friendly Meadowbrook resident noticed that something was going on and pulled over to assist. He got blankets from the Thrift Store and waited with the new parents until the ambulance arrived about twenty minutes later. Cliff s middle name Aquila is latin for Eagle, a reminder of his birth in his Dads dream car. While the Eagle is getting a well deserved break in a carport, Cliff still enjoys going for a little ride every now and then. Erryn and Wade would like to thank the friendly man from Meadowbrook, whose name they forget, but whose actions they will never forget. Cliff - a future Kimberley Chronicle paper boy lives three blocks away from his birthplace and likes to ride his bike past there once in a while.
