The boy with striped pyjamas

Prepared by: Reyven Bryce E. Bato

The movie The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas shows a picture on how discrimination , hatred and violence affect innocent people, especially children during wartime. It is a story spotted through the eyes of the eight year old son of a high ranking officer in the World War II, Bruno. I have witnessed a prohibited friendship between Bruno and Shmuel, a Jewish captive boy. I was greatly amazed on how the two boys eventually became connected with each other through their nave and innocent minds. The movie deals with different issues. One of them is the detachment in the relationship of family members which people can relate to even today especially the young people. His parents strictness, sharp commands and the lack of communication within his family clearly emphasized this detachment which occupies the person who watches the movie as it relates to something they know and understand about since this is still a main concern nowadays. It did a good job in showing how harsh it was for the families, especially for the kids during those times, not to be told the events currently happening but instead taught to hate anybody that isnt Aryan. The movies concept of dictatorship gave me the idea that it is really difficult to live a life that is lacking with freedom especially when racial discrimination is involved. This is truly a highly touching movie for an individual, for the family, for the society and for the country. This movie is definitely a highly recommended film for everybody especially for those who seek inspiration and enlightenment these days.
