PROGRAMME AIMS The Diploma in Information Technology (Programming) graduates in Polytechnics, Ministry of Higher Education will have knowledge, technical skills and attitude to adapt themselves with new technological advancement and challenges in Programming fields
COURSE & CODE WEEKS CREDIT(S) PREREQUISITE(S) SYNOPSIS FP105 - COMPUTING ESSENTIALS 15 3 None SYNOPSIS: COMPUTING ESSENTIALS course provides a foundation in the basic Information Technology (IT) knowledge and skills necessary for ICT professionals. Students are exposed to the principles and good practices in environmentally sustainable computing and the use of appropriate technologies and methodologies in managing IT environment. This course provides practical exercises in several areas of Information Technology including personal computer (PC) applications, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and web page development. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. discuss actively the basic concepts, trends, issues and challenges related to current information technology. 2. apply appropriate features of a word processing and spreadsheet package to prepare standard documents, analyze raw data and produce output using window based or open source application. 3. communicate ideas effectively by creating a presentation using appropriate presentation tool and publish it successfully through web pages using HTML tags.
