Course Outline CEP775 Construction Engineering and Information Technology Laboratory List of Experiments Part II: Construction Engineering Laboratory S.No. 1. Experiment Introduction Grading of Aggregates (10mm, 20mm and sand), moisture content for all types of aggregates and SSD specific gravity of all aggregates Mix design as per IS10262:2009 (Students should be ready with their respective mix designs on this day. The water cement ratios and the water contents will be informed to them on the intro day. Each group of students will have the volume of concrete calculated for the following items that have to be cast on this day: 3 nos. 15 cm cubes for 7 day strength 3 nos. 15 cm cubes for 28 day strength (2 of these should be used for UPV and rebound hammer tests) 1 no. 15 cm cube for permeability 10 liters of concrete for slump test (to be done on the day of the cast itself) 6 cubes of 10 cm dimension for temperature tests 3 blocks with 3 embedded rebars in each block for half cell potential. Use these cubes for the Capo and Core Tests. Can be done before 28 days. 3 cylinders for split test diameter = 15cm, height = 30cm will be used for chloride and carbonation tests Add 20% extra by volume to the above Acoustic response in a room Book a classroom for this test, e.g. V-LT1 or VI LT1 or VI LT2) 4. Determination of chloride content in concrete, phenolphthalein test for measurement of carbonation depth, Determination of pH in concrete - 3 cylinders for split test diameter = 15cm, height = 30cm will be used for chloride and carbonation tests

Tests on effects of superplasticizers Marsh cone test, mini slump test, flow table test Measurement of half-cell potential Effect of temperature on compressive strength of concrete, Measurement of Standard Consistency, Setting Time, Casting of 7.06cm sized cubes for strength test using Portland and Pozzolanic Cement (6 cubes for each group). Rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements Measurement of permeability of concrete (This test will have to be started one lab before the depth of penetration has to be measured.) Measurement of moisture profile on a wall Capo test + Core Test (use cubes from the half cell potential)
