1. List the advantages and disadvantages of a micrometer and a vernier caliper. 2. Draw a neat sketch of an outside micrometer and label it. 3. Differentiate between Line standards and End standards. Give examples of these two types of standards. 4. Explain with the aid of diagrams, a typical application of the dial indicator for setting up purposes on the drilling machine. 5. What do you mean by interchangeable manufacture? Explain clearly. 6. Explain why a micrometer provides a more positive reading than Vernier Caliper. Part II (Answer any three) 12 marks

7. A crank and slotted lever mechanism used in a shaper has a centre distance of 300mm between the centre of oscillation of the slotted lever and the centre of rotation of the crank. The radius of the crank is 120mm.Find the ratio of the time of cutting to the time of return stroke. 8. 9. With a neat sketch describe the crank and slotted lever quick return mechanism in a shaper. 10. Calculate the change gears to cut a single stud thread of 3mm pitch on a centre lathe, having a lead screw of 6mm pitch. 11. Draw a line diagram of an engine lathe and label it. 12.
