EDITORIAL

Every society continues to change with time. The process of shredding the old and adapting to the new creates a problem of adjustment. Our country is also confronted with some major social problems like poverty, child abuse, corruption, gender issues, homeless youth, violence and terrorism since a long time. We have often been told that our ancestors gave their lives for this country, they saw their Sikh brothers being burnt alive for fighting for their rights in this land and all we want is our IPhone, money and booze. In simple words we have been tagged USELESS by our very own parents. Yes, we want our IPhone, money and booze, yes we are not the kind of kids our parents were nor have we experienced the kind of pain our ancestors went through but we have been brave enough to fight against and stand up for those social issues about which our parents wouldnt even like to talk about . AIDS, breast cancer, cervical cancer, honour killing or safe sex are some of the topics about which are parents would hesitate to talk about but we are fighting for these causes. Our parents would switch channels if a condom commercial is being advertised. They think that it will have a negative impact on us, what they dont realise is the importance of such commercials. Recent child abuse cases have taken this populous country by shock, when the most trusted hospital of the country with world class facilities is not safe how can a public park or a public place be safe. If the child is not even spared by his teachers at school what else can we expect? Covered by Anmol Jalta, the issue of child abuse has shaken the roots of the country which believed that a child is an incarnation of god.is this the way we treat god in this country?? On the other hand we have Srishti Malik who deals with poverty, a disease that has handicapped this country for years. She talks about the flawed methodology of the new poverty line , in order to make the people realise how badly this section needs attention. Also, we have Arzoo Bahl who talks about the repercussions of smoking, drugs, alcoholism and gambling in the form of addictions. We have netijyata mahendru who talks about the homeless youth consisting of the LGBTs. She raises a questions that why cant that LGBTs be accepted as a part of the society. She also talks about the organisations involved with their upliftment.

In the end we have Mrigna Chawla who discusses the involvement of youth with the development of the society. She talks about the ways through which the society has ben breaking the stereotypes.
