THE YOUTH OF TODAY

We are the youth. In our hands lies the future of today. According to Dr. Jose Rizal, the youth is the hope of the fatherland . And the meaning of this saying of Dr. Jose Rizal will never die. It still applies to the youth of today to us. The youth are the ones who will make the nation progress. Their young and innocent minds far from corruption, crime, and other evil things are the key to the development of the country. In this generation, the youth became stronger, wiser, more independent and aggressive. And these things will bring the nation forward. So firstly, the youth of today is strong. In their young age, they can handle heavy burdens in life such as pressure and stress. They are also strong enough to deceive the evil and uplift good morale. [I asked some UP students about on how they handle pressure and stress. One of them, Ariel Bethina Benito, who s taking BS Family Life and Child Development, said that Yes, I can handle stress and pressure. First is by staying calm and composed, then by trying to think carefully on how to get rid of them. ] The second description which I may give to the youth of today is that they are wiser. As the nation goes in to industrialization and modernization, the youth flows with it. They also become more civilized. They become aware of the things happening in the world or within the country. They are always in to the boost of high technology. We have the different gadgets and appliances which help to make life easy. And the youth are always updated to those things. The youth nowadays are also able to think solutions to their problems. There are some students who are studying in a distant school. And whenever they have problems, they have no choice but to solve it on their own. Without depending on their parents, they are able to make strategies or tactics enable to solve their problem. The youth of today is more independent. They can now stand on their own. Many are working students. They work partly to have money for their tuition fee. Another thing, the youth can also express their feelings liberally at the present time. They can speak out, as long as they are not violating any law, and as long as they are speaking for the good. Also, the youth of today became aggressive. They don t let anyone step on them. They know how to fight, but they firstly recognize the good and the bad. Just like in the past STRIKE. The youth all over the Philippines fought against the budget cut.

Lastly, the sad thing about the youth of today s generation is that, because of the liberalization, they already forget some of the Filipino traits. Just like kissing on the hand of the elders as a sign of respect or the pagmamano . Many of us forget to do it whenever we meet with our relatives. Another is the use of po and opo when talking to someone older than you. And of course, the conservativeness of every Filipina youth is neglected. The cases of premarital sex and early pregnancy are increasing. And it is not a good thing. When our national hero see this, he will surely be sad about this. At the end, I would like to say that we, the youth, should know and believe that we are the hope of our nation. We are the future leaders of our nation who would set a good example not corrupt, dedicated to serve the country, and selfless. We should not waste the opportunity to serve our country. And serving the country begins with the smallest unit of the society the family. We should show respect and love. We should also know the right time of everything. And let us not forget to thank our Almighty God, who gave us our lives and who loves us no matter how sinful we are.
