Reflection on ‘The Great Math Mystery’

In this world that we live in or even the undiscovered universe, there are many things
that are still unknown, and in the video which entitled ‘The Great Math Mystery’, shows that
how mathematics can be relate in everywhere or anything that surrounds you even mention
that mathematics is the language of the universe. However, as we grow old we already
realize that we unconsciously or consciously use mathematics in our daily lives.

Though everything that presented in the video made me chill, there are doubts and
uncertainty that rises which the answers are not revealed in the video. As if the presentation
focuses on the question whether the mathematics is invented or discovered? It seems that
there is actually no question at all, because obviously the answer is that mathematics is a
human invention. So what is the reason to view or consider? I comprehend that it is an
attempt by the mainstream to promote the idea that mathematics is what the universe
consist of, which is kind of convincing. In other words the video presentation is basically a
fallacy of human reasoning, which kindly disappointing and amazing at the same time. For
example; the accordance of Fibonacci sequence with the flowers petals counted. It is really
interesting to think that they in sequence. However, when I go outside, I discovered a lot of
flowers with petal count of four which is not in the Fibonacci number and not all the number
of the sunflowers seed or the pattern number in the fruits are in proportionally in sequence,
which is actually disturbing and with that it smashes the idea with what is in reality though it
is nature. The mentioned mathematical law governs the nature only with statistical
likelihood is not entirely convincing as a rule for governing nature because mathematics is
the language of the universe. In simple definition humans want to measure things and
measurement is counting, regarding the universe from the measurement it is necessary
involve numbers and thereby be mathematical. It does not imply that nature is mathematical
simply because humans have invented in order to measure or count things. In further to
support the idea it is followed by scientific approach. The experiment presented in the video
indicates that animals and infant humans can recognise in a way we do in mathematics.
Another claim is that mathematics is responsible for the great technological achievements.
However, we also know that Egyptian pyramids and many wonders of the ancient were not
accomplished using scientific or accompanying mathematical techniques. There are other
mathematicians involved and many more known inventors and creators known mentioned.
However if you read enough articles and studies about every single topic about it there are
still doubts and discrepancy.

In conclusion, mathematics is a human invention and that invention persists as a


mystery, because we humans have invested an idea of mathematics as the fundamental
reality of the universe though it is based upon the creation of an idealized abstract world
that exists only in our minds as human imagination and not actual physical reality, perhaps
a mystery in illusion.
