Today we have gathered here at the twilight celebrations of the national safety week that is held by OMPL in association

with our PMC M/s Toyo and our associates M/s LnT, Thermax, Vishal, Va-Tech, BOC, HDO, Gactel, GDC and all other agencies working inside our complex. This celebration was held in line with the celebration marking the inception of the National safety council on 4th march 1966. We have celebrated the week by organizing various activities like quiz competition, slogan writing competition, poster competition, various seminars on safety topics etc which has become a grand success in spreading the messages of the National safety council and also to reorient and re-align ourselves to the path of zero accidents. OMPL is a prestigious joint venture of ONGC and MRPL. It is a 5750 Cr project involving more than 1 lakh Cubic meter of concreting, , 14.5 lakh Inch dia of piping in a piping network spanning more than 240 Km. To achieve this massive task, it had required and still requires the dedication and skill of more than 10000 personnel. We have successfully completed more than 67 lakh tons of rock blasting and moved a total of 110 lakh tons of soil to transform this hilly land to make it suitable to build the foundations of a national asset. Our project site which encompasses an area of about 440 acres of land is home to about 300 construction vehicles involving cranes, hydras, excavators, personnel carriers which ply about the site in addition to the enormous amount of activities ranging from excavation to civil castings to structural erections and welding of pipelines. To ensure a safe working environment is a herculean task which falls on the shoulders of every individual within our complex. It is us who have to take care of making every individual count for bringing about a quality job without playing around with the safety. In this regard our safety department in conjunction with the Toyo safety department and the safety department of our associates have envisaged many a new concepts and adopted and built upon the standard safety policies and practices to make OMPL not only a safe working place but a healthy and happy place to work at. Some of the policies and practices initiated are: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Gang safety Leader Concept, Journey Management system, Tobacco free site, Ambient Air Monitoring, Water Sampling at site and nearby villages,

These have helped in not just enforcing the norms to make our site a safe place but more importantly in motivating the individual to adopt the safe working practices by himself. With these work practices, we have also achieved 25 million safe man-hours which is, in itself, a compliment for all of us here working towards a common goal. As we can see, health, safety and environment are those core aspects of our life that can always be bettered upon and the higher we reach the happier the work environment we create. Our goal in this regard should be to be able to have a symbiotic relationship with our environment and to create a system wherein safety becomes ingrained as an instinct in all of us.
