BACKGROUND
The Lenhardt Library strives to provide plant science resources and accurate information to users by collecting, organizing, preserving, and sharing subjectspecific materials for current and future use, while supporting all objectives of the Chicago Botanic Garden. With the implementation of our new OPAC in 2012, this lesson plan was created to assist the Chicago Botanic Garden Staff, students, and the Lenhardt Library patrons to access information independently. Though we will continue to be available for assistance during library hours, this will empower the Chicago Botanic Garden Staff and patrons, when we are closed.

GOALS
The goal of this lesson is to instruct Chicago Botanic Garden Staff, students, and Lenhardt Library Patrons on how to use our new OPAC. Upon completion of the lesson, students should be able to use the OPAC independently. Note: The Database lesson can be conducted following the How to use our catalog Lesson.

OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of the lesson, the student should be able to independently: Sign in, if they have an account Perform a simple search Perform an advanced search Locate a resource such as a book or journal Access links Learn to navigate the library OPAC

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

As a result of attending this course, students should be able to access the OPAC independently. They will be able to manage their account, search our catalog, and use links to find additional resources.
