Explain the method of design of commutator and brushes in a DC machine.(7) 4. Obtain suitable dimensions for the commutator and brushes of a 1200 kw, 440 V,300 rpm dynamo. The external diameter of armature is 170cm and the machine has 12poles and 540 armature coils. Make suitable assumptions.(8) Nov 2004 1. The avg value of flux density in the gap is 0.58 Wb/m2 and the ampere conductors per metre of armature periphery are 31000. The efficiency is 91%. Assume the ratio of length of core to pole pitch=0.75. 3. Determine the height of the coil, no of turns, size of the wire and exciting current in a field coil of a 440V, 6 pole, dc machine given the foll data: Mmf per coil=7500, Depth of winding=5cm, length of mean turn=125cm, Copper space factor=0.6, Power radiated from outer surface=1500Wb/m2, Resistivity=0.02 ohm/m and mm2.
