A. Read the following text carefully:
The Green Movement" began in the sixties when
people started to protest against pollution, the destruction
of wildlife and other effects of human society across the
planet. At first, it was seen as just a fashion, something
only hippies were interested in. But since its first
appearance, it has grown and become better organised and
even quite successful.
One example of a very successful green"
organisation is Greenpeace. It started in the 1960s in Canada, as a more or less amateur
protest group, with few resources. This is certainly not the case now, as it progressed in
means, which have given it some notable successes. For some years the world's press
and TV screens have been full of images of Greenpeace dinghies racing to stop whale
hunting.
Greenpeace's protests on factory chimneys and Greenpeace members fighting for
a just cause are almost anywhere in the world. For example, as a result of campaigns by
Greenpeace and other environmental groups, whales have become a symbol of nature
for many millions of people, and the countries, which hunt them, have faced lawsuits in
international courts. This is exactly what has happened. People power can sometimes
change things, and it has been public pressure that has been behind many of
Greenpeaces greatest achievements.
