Step back in time on a tour of Bhaktapur, a small feudal city where cobblestone streets wind between temples, courtyards, shrines and wells. Day 3 Bandipur This charming mountain town, surrounded by orange orchards, has views to the north over the foothills towards Tibet and southern views that hint at the River Ganges. Take an afternoon walk to meet locals and admire traditional Newari houses with slate roofs and carved wooden windows. Day 4 Begnas Serene and picturesque, the lakes of Begnas and Rupa are surrounded by thick forest echoing with birdcalls. Discover peaceful mountain trails, go fishing, explore Begnas Lake by boat and unwind with an Ayurvedic massage. Those feeling a little more energetic may like to unwind with some traditional yoga exercises. Days 5-6 Pokhara Situated on the shores of Nepals second-largest lake, Pokhara has a relaxed ambience. Meet local carpet weavers and craftspeople, perhaps go on a hike to the World Peace Pagoda, situated on a hill overlooking the city, or relax in one of the many cafs. Support a great cause by purchasing souvenirs or gifts at the Tibetan refugee camp. Days7-8 Chitwan National Park Safari through the tangled jungle of Chitwan National Park. In canoes, glide down a river that is one of the last remaining habitats of gharials - fish-eating crocodiles that have been hunted close to extinction. Keep an eye out for rhinos and the elusive Bengal tiger. Stay in a traditional jungle bungalow, which is made of natural materials and has a charming thatched roof. Gain an insight into local life on a intriguing village tour, and enjoy a traditional stick dance performance by members of the local Tharu tribe. Days 9-10 Kathmandu Spend the morning exploring more of the national park before catching a flight over mountains back to Kathmandu. Catch up on some last-minute shopping, soak up the colours of the citys shops and markets or simply kick back and relax in one of Kathmandus many teahouses. Perhaps enjoy a final group dinner of momos (dumplings) and curry.
