JUXTAPOSITION: Atticus Finch

VS

Alexandra Finch

Similarities: 1)They both have good morals that they want to portray to the children. 2) All they want is the best for Scout and Jem, which is why they teach them important morals and lessons as they are growing up.

Differences: 1) Aunt Alexandra shows prejudice towards black people while Atticus seems no harm in them, as they are human beings like him and her. 2)Alexandra wants to be strict and stern towards the children to teach them lessons and morals while Atticus has a calmer approach to it. 3) Atticus cares about what is right and what is wrong, while Alexandra cares about what other people think. 4) Alexandra treats Calpurnia as if she's only a housekeeper and not the children's role model, while Atticus treats her as a valued member of the family.

Other Comments:
Atticus and Alexandra do not see eye to eye on most things which causes much conflict between them.

FOILS:
Bob Ewell: 1)Bob thinks that Atticus is defending Tom only to humiliate his family and make him look even worse, meanwhile Atticus was handed this trial and wanted to put all his effort into it, as he is the type of person to do so. 2) Bob Ewell is VERY racist towards blacks and thinks they are the lowest of the low, while Atticus treats Tom as if he is any other white person because he believes people should be treated equal, no matter their skin colour.

INTERESTING FACTS:
1)Atticus tries to conceal the fact he is a good sharp shooter since he dislikes the use of guns, until he is forced to shoot the rabid dog. 2) During the trials, it is shown why Atticus is such a good lawyer. It is because he gets answers without directly asking them by being tricky with the way he words his questions.
