1.0 DEFINITIONS & SCOPE OF WORKS The purpose of this method statement is to describe the activities and methods, which will be used for placing of interlocking pavers on walkway. Laying a walkway with interlocking pavers offers style and durability to the overall look of landscape. Pavers are poured or carved from concrete, stone or brick, and are designed to fit in a number of interlocking patterns. The design in advance are needed or purchase an interlocking paver kit to avoid cutting the pavers yourself. Consider using the dry method of installation, which involves a base of gravel and sand and only requires basic tools.

2.0 MATERIAL REQUIRED i.- Interlocking pavers ii - Sand

3.0 PLANT AND EQUIPMENT & MANPOWER Plant and Equipment : i) Backhoe ii) Hand Tools iii) Plate Compactor Manpower : i) Machine Operators ii) Mason iii) General Workers

4.0 ORGANISATION CHART - As per chart attached.

5.0 PROCEDURE OF WORKS i) Make an outline of the walkway site, using two heavy ropes. Position the ropes at least 4 feet apart so the walkway is wide enough for outdoor equipment and multiple people. Then, trace the ropes with landscape paint as guide. ii) Interlocking pavers deliver to site according to type & design selected by the SO. iii) Excavate the site of the walkway to a depth of 210mm and trim the surface to receive rusher run. iv) Lay 100mm thick layer of crusher run and tamp it down with a plate compactor until the gravel is completely flat. v) Add 1 inch of coarse sand over the sloped gravel surface and spread the sand evenly. vi) Set the pavers, beginning in a corner of the walkway and working way down the length. Follow planned pattern, leaving no more than an 1/8-inch gap between each paver all around. Make sure interlocking walkway is even by placing a water level on the surface and adding sand until required level. vii) Brush fine sand over the interlocking pavers, compressing it between the spaces with a stiff brush. Add sand until all of the joints are filled, and sweep away the excess sand.

6.0 CONTROL OF WORK QUALITY 6.1 Prepare the Base

o

Prepare the base onto which the interlocking pavers will be installed. Remove enough dirt so that the pavers (60mm thick), 100mm thick of crushed stone, and 50mm thick of sand will fit into the excavated area without sticking up above the ground. The pavers should be placed so that there is a slight slope to allow for water runoff; make the crusher run and sand slightly higher on one side. Tamp the crusher run with a plate vibrator. Do not tamp the sand; use the unsettled sand to set the pavers into.

6.2 Calculate Pavers

o

Measure the length and width of the area to be paved, and multiply the numbers to get square metered area. Divide that number by the total number of pavers in one square meter.

6.3 Installation
o

Install paver borders around the perimeter of the project. Mark the center of the proposed area, and begin setting pavers in this area. Lay a 1200mm x 1200mm by interlocking the pavers while set them into the sand. Tap them level, and check the pavers to see if they are level. Once the whole pavers are installed, mark and cut any pieces along the edges with a tile or brick saw. Sweep sand into the paver joints with a push broom.
