Tacoma

2 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors

4 runs, 8 hits, 1 error

RECAP: 1B Alex Liddi hit a 3-run home run in the first inning and RF Eric Thames later went deep as the Tacoma Rainiers beat Fresno 42 on Friday night. Starter Danny Hultzen (6.0,3,2,2,2,5) allowed a run in each of the first two innings, but kept the Grizzles scoreless over
the next 4.0 innings to earn his 3rd win of the season. RH Jhonny Nunez (2.0,2,0,0,0,2) and RH Logan Bawcom (1.0,1,0,0,1,1) combined
to hold Fresno scoreless over the final 3.0 innings to secure the victory. Bawcom earned his first career triple-A save. Thames (2x4, 2 R,
HR, RBI) led the team with 2 hits, while Liddi (1x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) had a team-high 3 RBI. DH Stefen Romero recorded his first triple-A hit, a
triple, going 1x3.
OF NOTE: INF Nick Frankin, who had a day off yesterday, has hit safely in 8 of 9 games to start the season, batting .333 (11x33) with 8
runs, 1 double, 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 5 walks. OF Eric Thames is the only player in the league to reach base safely in each of his
teams first 16 games this season, with 14 games with hits. Overall this season he is batting .339 (22x52) with 11 runs scored, 3 double, 1
triple, 3 home runs, 6 RBI, 1 stolen base and 8 walks. Zunino became the first Rainiers player since second baseman Dustin Ackley to
have his first Triple-A hit go for a home run on Thursday night. Ackley hit a solo homer in first Tacoma at-bat on July 15, 2010 at Reno. The
Rainiers begin the season with 4 of the top 5 prospects in the Mariners farm system, as ranked by Baseball America. Catcher Mike Zunino
(No. 1), pitchers Danny Hultzen (No. 3) and James Paxton (No. 4), and infielder Nick Franklin (No. 5) all sit atop BAs list entering the
2013 season.
HITTING FOR THE CYCLE: Shortstop Carlos Triunfel recorded 5 hits, including hitting for the cycle as AAA Tacoma shutout Fresno 8-0
on Wednesday night. Singling on the first pitch he saw in the fifth inning, Triunfel completed Tacomas first cycle since Raul Ibaez
accomplished the feat on Aug. 19, 1997 vs. Albuquerque. He also is the first player in the Pacific Coast League to cycle since Nashvilles
Caleb Gindl on July 10, 2011, also against Albuquerque. Triunfel achieved the act in his first 4 at-bats of the game. He tripled with one out
in the first inning, led off the bottom of the third with a double, then homered in the fourth. He completed the cycle in the fifth inning after
lining a single down the right field line. Triunfel snapped an 0-for-20 stretch coming into the game and was the first Rainiers player since
Michael Saunders on July 30, 2011 vs. Las Vegas to record 5 hits in a game.
Todays probable starter: RH Andrew Carraway (1-1, 4.96) vs. Fresno
