What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

My audience feedback improved a lot in A2, due to the simple fact that the target audience I would be targeting at would be respond to this positively. In this A2 media studies course, I realised I asked more questions in terms of dislikes and things everyday people liked in general. It also allowed us to take positive feedback from the audiences and use it to come up with better solutions. For example, from the research and planning in which teaser trailers are merged with softwares which they use to attr act people online web 2.0 generation which generates over a billion websites a day including social networks such as YouTube, in which anyone can upload videos on a daily basis. Also the research conducted within our group showed the amount of people who spend watching TV and browsing on the internet. Below there is a graph which explains the statistics and the amount of people who spend time watching films per day or on a weekly basis. And the response I got from people based on the table is people between 1-3 days and 5-10 days spend less time watching TV compared to the people who watch TV in 1-2 weeks. So in total more people watch TV per week more than in a weekly basis.

Audience feedback also allowed me to discover the type of sub-genre people were mostly into, also developing the niche market instead of a mass market a term picked up in our media studies lesson. I already knew that my target audience would be familiar with the thriller and crime genres so, I decided to be more specific in terms of what type of genre they wanted. I gave them several of options and choices to what type of genre they preferred in movie from romance to physiological thriller. Compared to last year I also made sure that I gave them plenty of options, I also took into account of other peoples option because I didnt know any other type of genre which I couldnt have acknowledged, and I also if I did then I would then realised I need to cater to a bigger mass of audience therefore expanding my market.

From this graph, I was quickly able to realise that psychological, crime and supernatural were the clear fan favourite thriller sub genres from questions answered above. The weaknesses that I needed to exploit were that I didnt stick to the original feedback from the audience therefore I decided go along with the action and use crime, which was not an option. I did this because the after watching such films as zodiac, which I like a lot because the convention was a lot more easier to follow and the niche market is targetable and also the ideas are creative and simple to use. Social networking sites including Facebook was a big contribution when attracting and responding with my audience. I was able to get as much people as I can to complete my questionnaire due to that fact millions of people worldwide, of all age groups, use Facebook and other social networking sites including as Twitter. Another way I was able to benefit from audience feedback was through Blackberry which was another powerful social networking tool. The strengths of using social networking sites was that I was able to attract an older audience to and this influenced the change of the protagonist from a young person into an older one, making the media product more mature content and relatable to the younger viewers as well as the older mature audience, on top of this it also gave me a strong identity in terms of branding. The weaknesses were that I couldnt check my responses on time; also decisions were made too soon as I didnt have time to respond to any requests regarding the media product. If I had another crack at this again, then I would take more responsibility in my organisation skills and preparing for something a lot similar in terms of marketing my media product successfully.

Also the focus group had other factors which impacted on the product massively. I was able to use technology to film my audience feedback and focus group. From the feedback received in the focus group aswell as the audience feedback itself, I was able to make small minor changes which needed to improve my product and make it stand out to other media products out there. Colour schemes of the poster and magazine cover allowed making the products look professional and stand out a lot more. Also advice from my other A2 media studies partner allowed us to work together and play around with different texts, sell lines and gave us the possibility to combine all our media products onto blogger and from then on, the audience was willing to see changes made to our product and how we have progressed. The strengths of my media products were that the audience helped us, build a strong brand identity. One of the audiences responses informed me that the poster, from Promise Me, seemed basic and too much big red fonts were unnecessary; he thought that the poster was rushed and didnt have any consideration or thought into it. The strengths that were pointed out clearly was the creative aspect of the poster which was positive feedback in my opinion, and again social technological tools such as Blogger, Survey Monkey, and mobile phones were a big contribution to our media product. My weaknesses was mostly the organisation skills because I received a lot of comments, feedbacks which would of made me think a lot more thoroughly in the decisions I would make in the near future. Therefore I was going on the views that I received from the audience and instead going along with my own original ideas and thoughts. Furthermore, the presentation of the audience feedback wasnt great aga in due to organisation and preparation skills involved; although had I organized everything on the blog better. Had I done, this then the main products would have been a lot better, therefore making the audience feedback and other factors to marketing our product a lot easier and efficient.
