The Auramancer - by Eyal Weinstock. The auramancer is a new class i designed.

It it totally different from other classes, that's why it's not called a kit. It hasn't got any clerical spells, nor mage's. But, he can create the same effects sometimes, and he is more useful in normal playing, e.g : when confronted with normal things. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"It is said the auramancer is just another psionic. Actually, wizards say that, but they don't understand the true meaning of being an auramancer." Darius whispered to his newly 18 year old grand child. "You see, the world, according to wizards, is that everything has a logical meaning, and that energy comes only from the elemental or paraplanes. Clerics, on the other hand, are a little more open to our ways, but they too believe true power comes from the gods, and every little thing they don't understand, they say it's a miracle by their gods..." noticing the displeased face his grand son exposes him, darius reminds himself his little boy is now of the order of Opus. "..don't get me wrong here son, or as i now have to call you, Tristan Valiant, i don't say that there aren't any gods. I just believe more like the mindbenders of Tyr that true power lies in ourselves." Content of himself, Darius lets the acolite absorb what he just said. Then, he sips out of his blue crystal cup a bit of the waterish liquid in it, smells the aroma of the tea, and continues. "Like every man in the Valiant family, now that you are 18, i have to teach you the ways of the aura. Some say it's a gift, others say we are aliens, either way, every place needs at least one like us, and you can make a real good living by working as the head auramancer of a village." Seeing Tristan's eyes glint for a moment tells Darius he got the little man's attention. "You see son, the basics are really easy, every creature, make it human, humanoid, monster, or even undead, has an aura, representing his spirit state, and his basic intentions. The aura protects the creature from diseases, and controls the speed of healing." He takes another guzzle from the warm glass, and continues. "Let's take an example. Have you ever noticed that sometimes, when you feel down, you catch more easily a disease? This is proof we can control our aura, even without knowing that. We, the auramancers, have learned how to detect and read such auras, and even to control them. That's what makes us special...". A sound of a gong signals supper time. Darius takes the staff which was lying on the side of the couch, and gets slowly up. "The rest i will tell you tommorow, you will be surprised. Don't forget, meet me at the marketplace near Sunseer's street.." Darius then fades away into the darkness of his mansion. Yes, you can really make a living by working as an auramancer.. The marketplace is was pretty busy that day, the day Tristan pushed aside the order of Opus, broke his vows to his patron god,

and became a true Valiant. For centuries, the Valiant family had passed the rough time with nothing else than the gift. "O, here is grandpa, let's hear what he has to say," Tristan said with a sceptic voice. ".. this old man has lost his mind, seeing energies around people.." he mumbled. Darius invited Tristan to sit near him, on the rim of the new fountain. "You see Tristan, this monument was raised to our name, you can read it here... V-A-L-I-A-N-T." he read from the copper plate. While taking his place on the edge of the fountain, Tristan took a look of the bronze statue in the fountain, depicting a man healing another a man, maybe a peasant, by passing his hands over him. Trying to regain Tristan's focus, Darius continued : "These were the old times, when we hadn't perfected our skill yet... Today, it is much easier." The acolyte had a hard time believing the people in the village believed in these powers, having spent all his life with his parents in the central city. Darius, who caught the grimace on the young man's face, understood the disbelief the priest, and got into action. "So, you don't believe me now do you?" he asked. His assumptions where confirmed when Tristan nodded. "Well, what would you say if i gave you proof?" he asked again. This time, he didn't let the young man answer, he turned to the Inn, which was situated just a couple of feet from the fountain, and said : "If i will tell you exactly how many people there are in that building, without entering it, or using magic, will you believe me?" he once again asked. Tristan nodded again in aproval. Just as the old man wanted to begin the demonstration, a man passed by, and said hello. Darius replyed, then asked : "Where were I? Oh right, the demonstration." Darius closed his eyes, and positioned his hands in front of his face, to the direction of the inn. As if hit in the face by an anvil from the front, he violently moved his head backwards, and opened his eyes. The funny thing is, Tristan wasn't sure if they were his grandpa's eyes anymore. Instead of the normal brown iris in a white surrounding, the iris turned white, and the white color of before, turned a dark blue, almost blackish color. Tristan was shocked to say the least. He just sat there, with his grandpa, unmoving. Ten minutes later, Darius passed his hand over his face, and when the hand returned to his pocket, the eyes were back to normal. Stuttering, Tristan only said : "How, what?.. HU?" before the old man cut him in the middle, and announced : "38 people." Not wanting to look a fool, Tristan, still in shock, got up, and strolled into the inn. The inn of the Red Pig was pretty full that day, and through the smoke, the young priest started to count the people. "1, 2, ... 37. It was all a trick, that old man got me!" he told himself, when suddenly, a hand touched his back. "I think you forgot to count that man in the toilet.." It was Darius, and after checking and getting a roll of toilet paper in the head, Tristan had to give in to the old man's rantings.

"Yep, there were the first days of my career, Tristan told his nephew, Ominus Valiant." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I wanted to test my storie writing skills, as i have a test coming up this week.. :) If you think it's good, or bad, give me some comments.. Anyway, i guess you are now waiting for me to show you what these nice words mean in gameplay, so here it is.. One more thing, i have not added yet the xp needed for every level, neither numerous actions. (see later). Also, i have not yet written what the palace of Crystals is, neither what the NWPs "aromastika" or "Crystallia" is. (although i know what to put there.. just lazy..). Your help is to create numerous actions (according to the demo at the end of the document), and to help me choose how many xp is needed in every level. Also, i really want this class to keep the equilibrium of the world, so if it's too powerfull/weak tell me what to change.... * - A wisdom over 16 gives 10% more XP. ** - See below Auramancers are ordinary people, who have learned and perfected the unordinary powers called the auras. No spirit - No Aura, counting undead as spirit-owning creatures. Because of the auramancer's devotion to spirituality and the need to keep their skills finely tuned, the auramancers cannot be multi-classed, but dual-class is accepted sometimes, as long as it's a more spiritual or abstract skill. The gift of auramancy is found only each 2 generations, and not every family can learn the skill. To perfect his skills, an auramancer has to have a vast understanding of the universe, needing at least a 15 score in wisdom. A healthy aura on a healthy body is one of the auramancer's codes of life, thus needing at least a Constitution score of 12. What's good about being an Auramancer is, that all powers don't need spell points, or difficult systems such as memorizing and things like that. All an auramancer needs is time. Every effect of the aura takes a certain time to achieve, and a certain level

Now, let's say, a character chooses, when reaching level 5, to learn the action called "X". He then has an action on his sheet called novice "X". A couple of weeks later, when he reaches 7th level, the skill automatically reaches advanced "X", and the fifth level after, for us thus being 9th, the skill is Master "X". In terms of time, there is no difference between master in a certain skill, or novice in it. The difference lies in the perception and small details. Let's take an example : Darius, in the story, was master of the skill of seeing auras through objects. He knew exactly how many people there were inside the inn. A novice of the same skill, would say things like "A small group", "A horde". An advanced one, would say "between 20-40" or "A bit less than 40." Also, Darius could have told a thing such as "4 elves, 4 half-giants, and 30 humans", because the aura is proportionate to the size of the creature. (There are some creatures with a very strong presence which aren't part of this rule). An advanced one would say "a hanfull of big creatures, and a bit more than 30 normal ones", while a novice wouldn't know how to distinguish between the auras. The training of an auramancer takes 3 yeas, after which the auramancer can continue his work without his teacher. If, by any reason, the teacher dies before the end, or cannot complete his teachings, the student must take double the time to complete his studies. At least two years with a teacher are needed. During the first year of the auramancer's studies, his mind and body are conditioned for the learning ahead. He is taught the special skill of Aromastika, and is vigourosly physically trained. The second year is the most important one, where the student learns the basics of auramancy, called Kali and learns the skill of Crystallia. The next 3 years are there to aid the student to amass the needed knowlege to pass the "Test of Presence", at the crystal palace. (more info on Crystallia, Aromastika, Kali and the Crystal palace - see later on.) If the test is positive, he earns the title of Omega, otherwise, he must wait until his son reaches 18, teach him what he knows, and let his son be an auramancer.

After the training is complete, because of the lack of learning he did of the outside world, Omega Auramancers have a -1 modifier on anything outside auromancy. This modifier dissapears after reaching 3rd level. Now, let's talk actions. All throughout the document i have explained some things about those "actions". The power of seeing through objects (seeing auras) is an action. Other actions will be detailed in one of the next chapters.. Look down the document. Now, every action has to be performed in the state auramancers call "Kali". In this state, the auramancer's eyes change colors, like darius' eyes. Every auramancer has his own special colors. Now, the eye itself didn't actually change color, it's as if a lens, like a contact lense, was put over the eye, so the character can access the power of actions. The lense acts as part of the human body, and if damaged, it regrows after 1d4 days during which the auramancer is useless. The state can be maintained for about two hours, after which the auramancer has to rest an hour. If the character only stays in the state 20 minutes, only 10 minutes rest, and so on. All throughout the Kali, the character sees auras of creatures at 10m/level of him, in direct sight. Every object which is not translucive, blocks the energies, and doesn't let the character see the auras -> he can't manipulate them. (using a spell where the character sees the other, or objects, such as magic crystal balls and such is not permitted, unless specificately designed for auramancers.) Some actions extend the Kali to see through objects, but it doesn't let them manipulate 'em. There are hundreds of actions, but there is a number if actions which the auramancer knows per level. Every time a character goes up a level, he can choose to learn new actions. Table 2 shows the number of actions per level, and the xp needed for every level. The auromancer receives some granted powers and bonuses, and some special limitations and problems : Granted Powers and Bonuses : -Receives Actions. -After staying 1 year in a place, the auramancer can earn money by treating patients. (It is special, so it pays good...). -Every auramancer will help another one in need whenever they can. Special Limitations : -If touched by cold iron (like faeries), the auramancer cannot use his powers for 1d4 hours. -Auramancers cannot use metalic armor. (They can treat people with metalic iron though.) -Auramancers can be maximum skilled in 4 weapons. Demo of Action : let's take what darius did as a demo. Name : Aura X-ray Notes : Nickle and Cold Iron act like lead does for normal x-ray. All other barriers can be maximum 2 meters thick. What it does : This action let's the auramancer know more about the number and kind of creatures behind a certain barrier. Novice : knows if the group is big, or small, or 1 person. Advanced : knows approximately how much people, and if big or small. Master : Knows exact number, and if race known to him, then he knows which race the creature is of. THE END
