1- WHAT I DO TO HELP THE POOR CHILDREN?

Nowadays, in many parts of the world, theres a fact that many poor children are living unhappily. They have to do many things to save their lives because their parents are not able to provide a better life for them. As students I think that we should act together to help the poor children to improve their lives. First of all, we need to have a compassion for children. We are always ready for help whenever and wherever they need. We have to try hard to become their friends so that they can feel more confident in life. Secondly, we should establish a volunteer club. The aim of this club is to call upon everybody to act with us. Then we should create a specific program for our club: organizing compassion classes for poor children, and designing activities to collect money from organizations, companies and those who are charitable. In addition, we should contact with parents or sponsors of these poor children to find better ways to improve their living conditions. For example, we could sponsor money for them or help them to search jobs which are suitable. In short, helping needy children, working together in groups and bettering their lives are all what we can do to help the poor children. 2- WHAT I DO TO KEEP MY NEIGHBOURHOOD CLEAN? It is true that living in a fresh and clear environment improves peoples life. We should keep not only our house but also our surrounding places free from pollution. In my opinions, there are ways people can contribute to making the area nicer for everyone around. First of all, we should set a good example by keeping our neighborhood neat and tidy. We should pick up litter and put it into the trash cans and/or recycle bins regularly. People may see what we do and follow us. Also, we may convince others to work together with us. Secondly, we should start a clean neighborhood campaign. The aim of this campaign is to call upon people to make our own environment clear and without pollution. We encourage everyone to pick up trash or dirty things on their places and the surrounding areas. In addition, we should be willing to pick up litter in public areas and in the neighborhood. We should try to

create a sense of ownership and responsibility for the environment and encourage others to do the same. In short, keeping my neighborhood clean is the best way to improve our lives.

3- WHY MANY YOUNG PEOPLE DONT LIKE VIETNAMES FILMS? People in the world enjoy watching films made in their countries and by their native directors. Theres a fact that many young people dont like Vietnamese films these days. In my opinions, the equipments, actors and contents of the films fail to attract young people. First of all, most of the films are badly-equipped. Many film-makers still lack facilities to make their films more attractive and effective. Moreover, government funding makes the problems worst and worst. Secondly, many film-makers tend to employ young actors to act in films. Although these people are beautiful and attractive, they are not qualified enough to play the roles of the characters. Of course, they make film-watchers feel so bored when watching their performances. Finally, Vietnamese films are usually poorly written. Most of the films we watch on TV or in the cinemas focus on the Civil War in the South. These films make young people difficult to enjoy. In addition, many other directors make films by copying the contents of Korean films, which makes people feel bored when watching. For example, such films as Huong phu sa, 39 degrees of love, Mui ngo gai. are all Korean-based. In short, if our film-makers try their best to change the situation, I think that they will create many films with high quality for our people to enjoy. 4- The good and bad of computer

The computer has been changing the way people live for thirty years. It influences nearly every aspect of modern life both positively and negatively. The computer provides people with good things. First of all, its a tool to get information from the Internet. People can read newspapers on-line or surf the Web to find the information they want. Moreover, the computer also helps people do business. Managers can keep records of their employees information and retrieve it easily and quickly. Businessmen can introduce and sell their products on-line without having to open a showroom or a store. On the whole, many people now say that they cant imagine what their life would be without the computer! However, there are disadvantages the computer causes to people. Firstly, people are getting more and more isolated as they lack daily contact with other human beings. They send e-mails instead of meeting friends or relatives. They stay at home ordering goods on-line instead of going to the market to buy things. As a result, their communicative skills are becoming worse and worse and their care for other people are usually said to be physically weak. They spend time playing games on-line or browsing the Web instead of playing sports or taking part in outdoor activities. In short, computer users need to learn to use the computer to become the masters, not its slaves, so that they can get the most use of the advantages it brings to them.

5- do young people today make good use of their Leisure time? Today people are living much better than ever before. Consequently, many young people have the opportunity to make good use of their leisure time. Most of them prefer to spend their leisure time outdoors. They say that getting outdoors gives them a new perspective and helps them clear their mind. Firstly, being outdoors gives people the opportunity to try new things, see new sights, and meet new people. It also means a chance to improve their mental and physical muscles. For example, they can go hiking in an area theyve never been before, they can go swimming or rafting on the river. They can visit all the places in the city that theyve never seen before. In each case, they are doing

something that helps them relax while also enjoying the excitement of something new. Secondly, enjoying leisure time outdoors can mean making new friends. Because the atmosphere outdoors is more relaxed, people can make more friends and play football or basketball. A computer game or watching TV does not give them the same satisfaction as having fun with their friends. In short, getting outside the environment we are living gives us the opportunity to meet new people. It is clear that leisure time is better when its spent in the nature. 6- What I do to maintain good friendship Friendship is the most beautiful thing we have in life because we need people to talk to and to share some sentiments with. Therefore, we need to strengthen our relationship that connects us with our friends. In my opinions, we should focus on some good ways to maintain our friendship as follows: First of all, good friendship should be based on mutual understanding. We need to give and take accordingly. A person who is concerned only with his own interests and feelings cannot be a good friend. Friendship cannot last long if we only want to take things. Secondly, there must be a perfect sympathy between friends. We must know when to express our concern in times of need and when my friend has some problems we should try and help. We also need to encourage our friends and assist him or her when the situation arises. More importantly, we have to trust our friends. Good friends should know how to respect each others secrets so that they can feel safe when telling their secret or privacy. Similarly, we shouldnt tell our friends everything and anything unless we are sure of his or her personality. There are people who cannot keep a secret. Such people will never keep a friend long. In conclusion, having one good friend is still better than a hundred friends. We should try to do many things to keep our good friend so that we can know the real meaning of friendship.

7- How to be successful in your English learning? Many people all over the world believe that it is very difficult for them to learn the English language. Almost everyone knows that they should try to find better ways to learn English successfully but few of them know how to learn it well. In my opinions, there exist good ways for students to make their English learning successful when learning English. To begin with, students should pay more attention to the English saying: practice makes perfect. That means they have to focus much on practising English. For example, when they learn English, they should read more, speak more, listen to English from time to time and practise writing everyday. At first, it will be easy for them to make mistakes. But if they go on practising English and ignore their mistakes, it is clear that their English is getting better and better day after day. Another good way students should consider when learning English is that they should try to create an Englishspeaking environment. Making friends with a native Englishspeaker seems to be a good choice. It is widely known that learners cant master English unless they can communicate with a native speaker fluently. Also, students have to try hard to improve their listening skills during their conversation with a foreigner. Only in this way can they learn English well and be successful in their learning process. Although there are many other better ways for students to master the English language, I believe that the first and most important way of learning English is that students immerse themselves in English-speaking environments regularly. 8- Three immediate measures to solve the traffic problem in your city. These days, finding good ways to solve traffic problem in our city is of great importance for many people. In my opinions, there are three suitable measures we should consider when working on this issue: To begin with, the leaders of our city have to sit together and plan to renew our city. Because our city was established many years ago, it cannot keep up with the

development of our modern life. The streets are not too long and very narrow. All the plants and factories were built inside the city. Therefore, it is very difficult for people to travel to work and some times there are accidents in the streets. Secondly, governments can introduce the public transport to reduce the number of vehicles, commuting in our city. Also, new means of transports using polar energy or cell energy are being studied and will soon appear on markets. At the present, the least thing governments can do is planning new transport systems, making them more scientific and comfortable. Finally, our people have to be taught to obey traffic laws. Theres a fact that many jobs require people working in groups at the same place. These people have to commute many times in a day to go to work and return home. Therefore, they often break the traffic laws or jump the traffic lights during their travel. In short, rebuilding our city, providing new conditions and educating people to obey traffic laws seem to be an interesting and realistic idea. I believe that if the leaders of our city pay more attention to these things carefully, our traffic problem in our city should be improved. 9- Writing a letter inviting a friend to go on holiday Dear Nam, We havent met each other since you moved to HCM city with your family. I miss you a lot. As you know, we are both having some days off this year soon. And I would be delighted if we are meeting together in a strange country talking about our past days. If you havent made any other plans, why dont we spend two or three weeks on holiday in China together? Do you feel like visiting the Great Wall? Or Do you want to see the great changes in Shanghai after years of innovation?..... as you know, we have seen a lot of places, interesting things, and people on TV and we want to go there once to satisfy our wishes. Our trip will last within two weeks and we will start on 6th June by train in Hanoi. Do come if you find it possible and Ill make all the preparations then. Give my love to your parents. 10- Friends or family? Although friends make an impression on your life, they do not have the same influence that your family has. Nothing is as important to me as my family. From them I learned everything that is important. I learned about truth, ambition, and love. Your family is with you forever. They are not going to leave you because they find another daughter they like better. They are not going to leave you because they think you are too much trouble. A family is permanent, while friends come and go. Your parents are your role models. They will encourage you to do your best to push yourself, and to improve your self. Friends want you to stay the same, they dont want you to be different. A family is ambitious for you. Friends are not. Your family teaches you about love. They love you for everything you are. Friends may love you because you have a new car or because you go out with them on Saturdays. A family loves you. Friends only like you. Without my family, I wouldnt know what to do. I wouldnt feel safe. I might not have the ambition to go to school. I probably would be afraid to love. My family has great influence on my life style.

11- Overpopulation causes a lot of problems Nowadays, the population of the world has been increasing faster and faster. This is one of the biggest problems that many countries in the world have to cope with. In my

opinions, increasing in population causes a lot of problems to social and economical development. To begin with, overpopulation can lead to wide spread crime. It is clear that the more people live in an area, the more crime problems it will cause. It is hard for many people to live on their own due to this problem. Therefore, they engage in unlawful activities to help them survive. In many big cities today, such crimes as robbery, theft, kidnappings. seem to happen everyday. In addition, housing contributes to making the problem worst and worst. These days, young people after marriage find it difficult to buy a flat to live. We all know that more people means less space is needed. The price of land increases rapidly and normal workers, who work hard all their lives, never dream about saving enough money to buy a piece of land to build their own house. More importantly, the increasing population brings about shortage of food supply. People have to try hard to find more food for survival. However, we know that there are limited natural resources. People in the world will face difficulty if this problem still arises. In short, we already know that all of these problems come from overpopulation growth rate. This is a global problem. Governments and individuals must take their responsibilities in slowing it down as quickly as possible. 12- The differences between the young people in the 70s and those at present In recent years, our life has changed a lot thanks to the development in advanced technology. From the 70s, the life seems more difficult than that in the 21st century and young people often say they are very different from those who lived in the year 1970. In my opinions, there are two significant differences between the two generations. First of all, the entertainments between the two generations are remarkably different. N 1970, what young people did to relax after working hard is just simple. For example, they often gathered to play football, catch butterflies, or sound a trumpet.. Sometimes they went fishing or swimming. However, things have changed a lot today, young people use advanced technology to connect people in different ways. They send messages and e-mails to get in touch with friends easily and quickly. They can make friends with people from different countries in a few minutes. Also, there are a lot of new games on the Internet

for them to play. They can stay at home watching a lot of films and seeing what happens around the world. Secondly, another difference is the presence of wars. In the past, there were a lot of wars between countries such as: Vietnam War, China War..the life at that time seemed more difficult than today. There was often shortage of food supply. Also, young people had to join the army to fight for the countries. As a result, many died in the fields, some injured seriously and became disabled the whole life. In contrast, young people today see no wars, face no difficulty in life and have everything for their happy lives. Money, food, services. are all the factors that make their lives different from those of people in the year 1970. In short, young people of different generations have different ways of living and enjoying their lives. People should try hard to make their life more and more convenient so that they can live longer and happier. 13- Many problems would disappear if the world spoke one language People all over the world believe that languages are their great barriers when they happen to deal with people from a different country. Thats why many people think it would be helpful if the world spoke one language. In this case, it would save us all the time that we spend on studying languages. However, in my opinions, many problems would appear if we spoke one language. First of all, if people spoke one language, lets imagine how much bigger our vocabulary would be! We have more than 6 billion people in the world and its clear that our vocabulary would be much more advanced and more words would be used. In this case, confusion would happen and people would not know what to do when they express their feelings with each other using only one language. Secondly, it would be likely that the world would become one and we would live in a bigger country. We would have to decide to vote for our great president and we would also have to choose one suitable language. There exist three certain languages such as: English, Chinese, and Esperanto. It would be difficult for us to choose one. In addition, language means cultures. People in different countries have their own cultural and traditional values over the years. If one day their values disappeared with their own languages, they would lose their diversity and

even the meaning of everyday life. Its a fact that no cultural diversion would make the world boring. Although there are benefits when we speak one language, I think that the bad things outweigh the good ones. People should try to keep their own language so that our world would be exciting and a lot of fun.

15- What should the young people do to get himself/ herself for the future? Young people are the futures of our country. Like their old generations, they have to prepare for their new life. In my opinion, they have to do a lot of things before they come into real life. First of all, young people have to know that the choices they make today can make a difference for their future. For example, having a baby, or getting married at an early age could change his or her life forever because if they have a baby or get married without a job they may face a lot of difficulty in their life. Secondly, they have to build their own values. For example, they have to show that they have their own personalities, they possess enough background/ foundation so that they can easily deal with troubles happening around them everyday. More importantly, they have to identify their own goals. For example, they are going to go to college or trade school after high school, or they may get a job.. it is important that they get a degree or be well-trained so that they can meet the requirements of the new life, have good jobs, live on their own and support their family. In conclusion, young people today are the owners of our country tomorrow. Young people have to build up good preparation so that they can take place their old generations. Its clear that they have to find good ways to get themselves ready for their future.

advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In my opinions, the advantages of living in a city would be the followings: First of all, we can enjoy the excitement of big cities. When living in a big city, people have to adapt to a variety of situations, like finding a new route to work or trying a new restaurant. Also, the city is the centre of cultures, so when people want to relax after a hard working day, they can entertain themselves in one of many theatres, clubs, cinemas, exhibitions.... Secondly, living in a big city provides people with cultural and education opportunities. In cities, colleges and schools are available so that people can improve their education in any of them. Therefore, young people get more education and knowledge in the city than in the country and it is easier for them to find a good job. Similarly, big cities often attract different people from different parts of the country. People can have a good chance of getting to know the cultures, characteristics and/or speciality of each region. More importantly, living conditions in a big city are often better than those in the country. The running water and electricity system are provided everywhere in the city. The means of transport are available and people can go everywhere they like by bus, train, cars, etc....there are many shopping centres and markets as well as department stores in which people can choose the best things they need for their daily life. In conclusion, living in cities is always desire of many people especially the young. We should try to make full use of the advantages for our life so that we will live better and better.

17- A novel Reading novels is one of my favorite habits in my life. Each time I read a novel, I learn a lot of things and know how to behave well in life. The Captain and the Enemy is a novel I read recently. It was written by Graham Green in 1988. It is a story about a boy, Victor Baxter, whose father whom he calls the Devil loses him in a game of backgammon to a man who is only known as the Captain. The Captain, whose real name is never revealed, appears to be a sort of criminal. Since the boy has been taken away from his boarding school, he is brought up by a woman called Lisa, who is the Captains mistress. From time to time, the Captain returns to visit them, but for months on end they are alone together. During this time, a close relationship develops between them, and Lisa treats him as it he was her son. Eventually, the Captain goes to live in Panama, he tells them that they cannot join him there until he has made enough money. When he is 18, Victor leaves Lisa and gets his own flat, but after her death in a road accident he flies to Panama to meet the Captain. The novel leaves a deep impression on me. It

18- explain your opinion why you dont like a certain film Like many people, I enjoy watching films, especially love story films. Last Sunday, my girlfriend and I went to see Titanic, a love story film in the Rex Cinema. Although my girlfriend felt excited after the film, there were two things that I found it hard to enjoy it. To begin with, we already know that Titanic is a tragic love story film. It is about the sinking of a luxury liner on its first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1912. The film is made in America. The main characters are Jack Dawson and Rose De Witt Bukater. Jack Dawson is a young and

generous adventurer. While on board, he saves Rose De Witt Bukater from killing herself, and although she is already engaged, the two fall in love. Many people said that these two people were free to love each other. However, in my opinion, it is against our tradition. And I strongly disapproved of the ways these two people fell in love. Moreover, as I went with my girlfriend, I didnt want her to think of different idea within our relationship. Secondly, the film tells of the sinking of the ship. The ship hits an iceberg and sinks rapidly. More than a thousand people die in the disaster, including Dawson. The end of the film had negative impact on me. After the film, I was completely obsessed with what happened. I couldnt think of doing any other thing but the faces of the death people, the ways the ship disappeared into the deep ocean.

19- It is hard to imagine people can live without friend Many people believe that it is hard to imagine people can live without friends. I agree. For me, friends rank second only to my family. From them I learn a lot of things, feel more confident and live in a more responsible way in life. Friends are my great teachers that can teach me something about life. If I only have a couple of friends, I will know everything about them very quickly. If I have hundreds of friends, I will learn a lot of things and benefit from experiences. Each day theyll teach me something new and show me a new way of thinking about something. Friends are also the people that I trust and can depend on. After family, friends are those who care for us. They are always with us, laugh with us and provide us with a shoulder when we feel like crying. They serve as one of the biggest supports in our life. They share all our feelings and make us feel that there is somebody who still cares for us. Friends love us and set a good example in life. They always show us that we have to do much for the life and never expect anything in return. The ways good friends behave helps us think of our lifestyles. We have to live and share so as to make people around us enjoy life to the fullest. In conclusion, friends are important for us to have in life. When we have friends, we never feel lonely. It can

be said that a life without friends is like a flower without sun.

20- writing a letter explaining why you had an accident Dear Nam, We havent seen each other for a long time since you moved to HN City. I am now lying in a bed in hospital writing to tell you about what I had with my accident recently. It was a nasty experience. As you know, I was always interested in watching films in the cinema with my girlfriend, Hoa. Last Sunday Hoa didnt go with me to the cinema because she had to prepare for her final exams. So I went to the town with my bicycle for an afternoon film at the Rex Cinema. As soon as the film was over, It began to rain so heavily that I had to take shelter in a shop. When the rain stopped at last, it was already dark and I wanted to rush home. Before I could leave the town, however, a young man who was driving a Mercedes crashed into my bicycle. Immediately, I fell off the bicycle and was thrown onto the ground. Although I was wearing a helmet, I was seriously injured. The driver of the car took me to the hospital nearby where I needed several operations. Luckily, the doctors said that I would leave the hospital soon. What an experience it was. Huy.
