Editorial
Weve survived another winter and summer has nally arrived. At Taylor School weve had another good year with some amazing students who are now speaking, working, thinking and even dreaming in English. We had 42 students taking ofcial exams this year and you can read about what some of them thought about the Cambridge First Certicate (FCE) classes on page 5. I am especially proud of the children who have been with us from the beginning... after 2 school years with us they are now speaking English very well. Its also been very nice to see our adults progressing and gaining condence. We have summer courses in July, August and September and then back to normal classes on 1st October. Have a great summer!

COUNT THE ENGLISH BREAKFASTS

THERE ARE 10 TRADITIONAL ENGLISH BREAKFASTS HIDING IN THE SUMMER MAGAZINE.

ENGLISH BREAKFASTS HAVE BACON, EGG, TOMATO AND SAUSAGE... DELICIOUS.

You can take books from the library for 2 weeks. The best thing is... its free!

OUR LIBRARY

We have a growing collection of books for children and adults. Some are easier than others and some have CDs so you can read and listen to the books. Ask your teacher for advice on which to choose.

I think that the library is a good idea to study English without eort. You can take a book out and read it in the week, only a bit every day. I work every day and I have a daughter so I dont have any =me to study English but I can read for ten or Aeen minute every day.

Tales from Arabian Nights

I would like to recommend the last book I
Its easy to read, entertaining and gripping. If you start reading you wont stop. The stories in this book are very different. Some are sad and some are funny. We meet many interesting people: a clever servant girl, a judge, a stupid barber and forty bad thieves. The stories arent new, but you can nd the same people in the world today: A young man in love, a good friend or a clever young boy. read. Its Tales from the Arabian Nights.

A library book review by Marta

There are ten very strange and exciting stories and you can get to know a wonderful new world. The stories are told by Sheherezade, the Sultans wife. She is beautiful and clever and she knows stories for 1001 nights. Night after night, she tells them to sultan Shahrian. She always stops in an exciting place. Her husband wants to kill her, but he cant because he wants to know what happens next. He wants to hear the end of the story. How many stories does Sheherezade know? Im not going to tell you the ending!

ANSWERS ON THE BACK PAGE

This year we had lots of FCE students. Heres what some of them said about their experience at Taylor School.
Fran: 'I totally recommend Taylor School for studying the FCE, not only do the teachers help you a lot in preparing for the exam, but the atmosphere in the class is great, you improve your English so much. The conversation classes are very useful especially if you're a little shy and you are not used to speaking English, you feel more confident. Moreover, the classes are really fun.' Ramss: 'Taylor School made things easy for me. They let you choose your timetable, I came to classes on Saturday mornings. I came to the conversation classes when I could because in your daily life you haven't got a lot of opportunity to use your English'. Jorge: I'd recommend Taylor School because they have native teachers and they are very professional. The conversation classes were helpful and trained my ear.' Marta: 'At Taylor School we have a lot of classes, they make you study! Cristina: 'Although we were preparing for the exam we had a great time learning. The conversation classes are pleasant and you can get to know your classmates better.' Abl: 'Taylor School always help you. They give you a lot of recommendations so you can improve your English and your speaking level.'

Isral: 'I am definitely more confident, the classes are of great quality and you'll enjoy it! These classes have given me enough tools to solve some situations in my job.' Ariana: 'I would absolutely recommend Taylor School. The teachers are very friendly and teach very well. Taylor School organised a mini short film festival and I enjoyed it a lot.'

INTRODUCING THE STAFF

This year weve had more students than ever before and also more staff. We are lucky enough to have great teachers, and great people working here.
This year Andrea has taken over responsibility for the workshops (talleres) for primary students. Shes very good at nding activities that are both fun and educational. This was Lizs rst year with us at Taylor School and she has done a wonderful job. Shes from Halifax, just half an hour from my parents house in Wakeeld. She has been teaching a lot of exam preparation classes, and all her students are very happy. John is Lizs husband from Liverpool. Hes been teaching on Saturday mornings but hes so professional that I hope he teaches more classes here next year. As well as being a super teacher, hes also a keen photographer and a mean harmonica player. Cristina is the coowner of the school but she had to leave half way through the year to look after herself... and our baby! She will probably be back next year to carry on teaching some groups and Im sure shell be around to show off our little Taylor Marin. Luca did an amazing job, stepping in for Cristina when she couldnt teach any more. Shes been teaching our primary classes and preparing the children for the Trinity exams. This is Mara. Shes from Cangas de Onis, so shes a real Asturian. She has a talent with our little infants - soon theyll be speaking English better than me! Last year one of our infants (Ivan) even asked her to marry him. Elena is our very own Asturian from Miami! She could be back in the Tropics, but she chooses to follow her heart and stay here in the cold and rain, teaching English with us. Shes great at high level classes.

For the intensive courses we have Andrew. Hes from New York state and he came here to study Spanish and stayed. Hes an artist and teacher, so he should be great for our workshops and primary classes. Were looking forward to working with him this summer. Isa is our receptionist and admin clerk. Shes the face of Taylor School as you see her every day. She does a great job organising us all... but she needs to practise her English some more, so speak to her in English please! And this is me. Co-owner of the school and very proud of what all the staff have achieved again this year. Our students are learning a lot, they have fun and they recommend us to their friends and family. Im very lucky to work with these lovely people!

The star of the lm is Meryl Streep. She played the brides mother. Another actor in the lm was Pierce Brosnan. I liked it because of the music. 4) This is a lm about a woman who goes to live in Kenya with her husband. The stars of the lm are Robert Retford and Meryl Streep. A FILM REVIEW
by 3ESO
funny because everybody dances and the style is very different from now. They dance rock and roll and do the hand jive. The fashions of the 1950s are very cool the boys wear suits and ties and the girls wear colourful dress and scarves and at shoes or high heels. The most exciting scene was the race at Thunder Road between Danny and the leader of the Scorpions (another gang). Dannys car is called Greased Lightning and he wins. The old cars are very special. We think that the best scene is the nal scene because it is very happy. It takes place at the Graduation Carnival. There is a big party on the last day of school and a fair with rides. The sun is shining and everyone is looking forward to the summer

We have given the lm four stars because we liked the story and the songs. If you like romantic and musical lms, you will like the love story between Sandy and Danny. We also liked the fashions and the cars from the 1950s (the fties). There are a lot of funny scenes at Rydell High School with the teachers and the students. There are lots of songs about friendship, love and school. The TBirds are a gang of boys at the school who wear white T-shirts and black leather jackets, the girls have a gang called the Pink Ladies and they wear pink silk jackets. The funniest scene was when Danny from the T-Birds tried to do sports, like basketball and baseball but he wasnt very good at sports. Another of our favourite scenes was the dance competition at Rydell High School. It was very

holidays. Sandy changes her look and she and Danny sing: Youre the one that I want which is a fast song. Then they sing a song with their classmates called Well always be together.. and then they get into Dannys car and it ies! We recommend this funny lm for the summer. We thought it was quite easy to understand in English too!
